Hi all
my Polo 1.0 TSi turbo has always been idling at 1,000 rpm.. high then most of the cars I have owned. (it is only three cylinder so perhaps that has an impact?)
anyway.. anyone used the OBDEleven RPM app for their Polo?
..I must admit to have been a bit rash buying 100 credits for this Nextgen device.. looking through most of the apps they seem irrelevant to me or can be done via the Multifunction display under settings in the car.. Even inspection/service reset warning can be done.. I have had to do this once after the garage forgot after servicing it. Still I'd like to know what your Polo (2017 onwards) models are idling at and if anyone used the RPM app?

check out uk-polos.net/viewtopic.php?t=78093While looking through ‘Advanced Measuring Blocks’ I came across some seemingly relevant information regarding specified idle rpm. Basically, the ecu / ecm is set to have an idle speed of 672rpm when the coolant is at or above 80c which it does run at (though it intermittently varies to 704rpm according to the data) and I’d really like to adjust that value upwards to about 750rpm. it says the car is 2002 but posted in the MK6 Forum so not fully sure if its your motor

very useful information/link..
I am not sure with my garage even if I asked them about this whether the reply would be ok as it is or .. hate to use the phrase. 'intelligent'.
1000 rpm seems over the top but need proper information.
I'd willingly try the adjust RPM app if I knew what i was doing.. LOL
What is your idle RPM please.. if similar engine?

Mine is a very heavily modified 2 liter turbo that (as per stock car) idles at 1000 when cold but drops down to 750 I think when warm, to be honest I dont pay much attention to the Idle level.

I see.. I presume yours is a four cylinder engine?
may be a factor?
Thanks

Yes good old 4 cylinder and also there is a rev limiter when in neutral.

Just put my car in to upgrade ARB's and got a polo loan car just to confirm it idles at 1000 and does not drop when warm

Thanks..
This is great information.
I think I'll leave the RPM alone now my car is stable and not idling at 1400 after some attention by VW.. still not sure it is what they 'told' me. I don't think there was an app for it anyway and I'm a Basic Plan user.
not sure what ARBs are (anti roll bars perhaps?)

Thanks again. I still have so much to learn on this system.. I did a backup the other day.. took quite a few minutes, which I didn't expect, and no idea where it went or how to restore if something went wrong. I tried to find short and long term fuel trim since the Polo software update vw did.. (rpm is stable now and car seems a little smoother) I think you need engine running; though my plug in Thinkcar device, with display, shows it with just ignition on. ps.. when you hooked up to the Polo and added it.. does that mean you can review the data? I'm so green with all of this

Best to ask rather than pushing buttons and then wondering what went wrong.
So when you do a backup yes it does take some time I am afraid this is very normal, if you watch the screen it will tell you how many control units its backup up andhow many left to go.
You can also just back up a single control unit (although not sure if that works on the Basic Plan) so if you are going to make a change on one control unit then just back that one up which is much quicker.
All the changes you make and backups and Scans are stored in your history section, if you have done a scan and a backup all the data is availiable offline (you dont need to be connected to the car at all) obviously it does not change its a fixed point in time view but helpful when trying to work out whats going on.
As above you can view your fuel trim data but that is just how it was the last time you connected to the car (I think or it might be the Backup Time)
Restore facility, the long coding is copy and paste so very easy to do. Adaptation you need to revert manually, you just run a backup at that point, email it to your self and do a compare between the two and change the values back.
However as you are a Basic Plan user you cant do this you have to go to your history and revert all the apps you have run and yes you will have to pay for them again I am afraid.
Last bit under settings you can store you email address so whenever you email data from OBD11 it will pre populate this info.
If you connect to another car you then have that info stored in your Garage.

that's useful to know

again.. useful.. I have been screen grabbing and Whatsapping myself

I just found fuel trim in the Gauges Menu... It would nice to bookmark these favourite places.. perhaps you can?

Afraid I am not aware of any way to bookmark the charts, If there is a Guage then I would expect it to use live data so you should be able to find the values there but again there is no way you can set up a predefined / bookmarked link.

I think I need to spend a bit of time navigating and making notes of how I got there.
the system goes very deep and I'll not do anything there even when/if I get the Pro Plan.. The main reason for buying a scanner that does more than my Engine only scanner is to wee what is going on with any warnings on the dashboard and some ammunition when taking the car in for servicing.
There are only a few thing I can imagine doing anything with.. I'm not interested in Lighting (LED) upgrades etc.. The car is pretty much what I wanted when i researched the options. I took me 3 months to find this model.
Folding Mirrors would have been nice but a retrofit is out of the question.. LOL
So grateful for your replies.

You are more than welcome, point of forums is to share with people so we all get more knowledge.
Things to add to your list of features.
1/ If you have the next gen dongle then you can also connect to BMW Cars and others in time.
2/ Check out the user manuals these are user built and sometimes there is good stuff there
3/ Have you looked at charts, these enable you to record live data and email output. I use this a lot on track days to record how engine is performing
4/ under main menu select lookup and you can check dtc and equipment codes that are on the sticker in your boot

Hi again.. I'm going to try to putting a few things together on this section of the forum (for beginners like me) over time.. I posted a battery registration route on the app for my Polo (when i get around to doing it) here. forum.obdeleven.com/thread/18956/battery-registration-route-obd11-appcould you take a look and see if it is right or needs anything added? Thanks

Battery adaptation is great however I would also put some words with it.
For example the Battery serial number is irrelevant other than it has to be different to the previous one so the control units know its changed.
Battery manufacturer from my understanding has no value so just leave it as it was or change if you want it correct to battery but i am not aware it has any impact on the process.
Then there are a number of options for Battery type its not always clear for people to understand which type to select if they are changing battery type.
Hope that helps.
