When you change the view on the dashboard there is an animation. For example when you change to the tachometer in the center elements of the UI are drawn sequentially. This takes about 400ms to 800ms.
In dashboard 17 -> lock display contents -> lock [on]
Now when you hit view on the steering wheel the display changes instantly.
I found this while trying to find a setting to lock the view button. Apparently this lock display contents section isn't related to that. There are other lock sections but I haven't checked what they do
