This is I can honestly say the first blog post that OBD11 have done that actually adds some value to the community
What you need to know before using Basic Settings
While Basic Settings no doubt gives amazing access to a vehicle, saving trips to a dealership or a workshop – this feature should strictly be used by professionals and experienced drivers only. This is because changes made with Basic Settings are irreversible.
That’s why we strongly recommend always err on the side of caution, even for professionals. Some changes can be restored only by an authorized repairer, which will cost you. In particular, you should take note of these Basic Settings:
–Resetting all adaptations; –Resetting all adaptation values; –Resetting factory settings;
More often than not, users believe that selecting these options will restore the original settings. What these functions actually do is delete them entirely. And when that happens, users have to go to an authorized service to have specialists reverse these actions.
Before attempting any kind of action, you should always refer to your vehicle’s Factory Repair Manual before making any changes with the Basic Settings feature. It’s always better to be safe rather than sorry – plus your wallet will definitely appreciate this.

whataboutthis : IMO, ANYthing that OBDeleven authors as a guide to users is to be applauded and the "basic setting" exposé is no exception!! So yes, 101% agreement with your sentiments and thanks for highlighting the blog. If OBD11 intends to write more of these type of blogs - maybe consider adding a "How to" tab at the top of forum page (gives new bees quick access to this important user facility)? Don PS: It's not mentioned in the blog, but it's interesting to ask: why have a Basic Setting function at all?
Basic Setting really is an elemental (and an inevitable) part of the car-making process and it's primary roll is to address the "standardization" failure of manufacturing processes.
In ALL modern production-lines, standardization is key to reducing the manufacturer's costs. This is a fundamental axiom of manufacturing engineering and it's especially difficult to achieve when applied to products that use the increasing complexity of 21st century technology! So, whilst VAG are very successful in standardizing their car-making processes so that every car that rolls-off the production-line is the same (for the various options chosen by the buyer) - VAG really can't control the entire range of possible variations. Again, complexity is the enemy of standardization in manufacturing engineering!! This is where the Basic Settings function becomes important - because it is this facility that takes account-of the inevitable variations in individual cars that roll-off the production-line.
In general, the role of Basic Settings is to provide the initialization values that control-systems (more specifically, the peripherals that are connected to modules) need to work correctly. These starting values are nuanced and they are different for each vehicle because subtly each car is made slightly different - despite the standardization imperative. Occasionally, these initialization values are lost, or they may become "polluted" , or inappropriate as a result of coding changes, or through wear-and-tear, or if new equipment is retrofitted to a car.

If you do then please add in a link to support page support.obdeleven.com/en/ there is a lot of stuff to help people get the hang of the app.
