I have a Golf estate with a Discover Media system and was wondering how easy it could be replaced by the Discover Pro system.
As far as I understand, the display unit is identical in both systems and hence does not require to be changed? It is only the OCU under the glove compartment that needs to be changed?
On ebay you find Discover Pro OCUs for a good price. Is it then only unplugging the old OCU and plugging in the new OCU? What coding needs to be done?
Any help would be appreciated.

The OCU is situated behind the cluster and - as a side note - cannot be exchanged without working closely with the factory.
You are referring to the head unit of the Infotainment.
The display unit stays the same, yes. But exchanging the head unit is still not plug and play, as CP, VKMS, SwaP and FoD need to be relearned with GeKo.
Also, you will need to rewrite parameters to match your car. Last but not least there are roughly 1500 adaptions to be checked by hand.
In the end DM and DP are said to have the same hardware, the only difference is dual maps (codeable, some folks argue about bad performance, but DP did not perform well with dual maps, too) and probably 3D buildungs, but there I am unsure if thats really true.

I have Discovery Media with Navi from "shop" at ~650 euro and I have some 3D buildings in my home town.

Perfect. Thank you both. I never had the chance to have a closer look at the DM.
So in the end: I see no reason for a costly and work intense exchange at all

  This is how it looks. On other parts of the city only iconic buildings are 3D and have colours (example: this is a shopping mall). In city center all buildings are 3D but gray. |

I think that we can built 3d models on here map service: mapcreator.here.com/I saw that there is a place where you can make 3D building. |
