Is there an app to get the bulb out warning to turn off on the 2012 GTI when LED tail lights are installed ?
Or is this only able to be done with coding?

Helped a friend with this on the weekend. MK6 Golf 2.5 Halogen Headlights, changing the Tail Lights to LED results in the operating voltages being different. Tried first to add resistors, no effect.

Yes Byte 18 !
Yesterday, I helped a Golf MK6 Forum Member with removing his aftermarket LED Tail Lights but this time we set Byte 18 to 20 from 00 on his '11 GTI, apparently that's what it was setup from the factory. I'm not sure why the bits were different in this case. |

There are several different modules for these cars with different address sizes and locations. Hence the reason why it would be too complex for the OBDeleven team to actually label them all.

Don't touch Byte 18 unless you are doing this with a VCDS cable.
OBDeleven app will not give the option to revert if something goes wrong with the coding.

I own MK6 Golf GTI 2013, I managed to solve the bulb error code by changing long coding byte18 Hex40 to 04 from center electrics after replaced OEM LED tail lamp with fog(right).
Be aware you must check your center control unit comparable with mine before process long coding, here is my center electrics info:

Hi,
I am new to all this and hope someone out there can help me out. I installed a new set of OEM Euro LED tail lights from ECStunning on my 2013 MK6 GTI and am getting the bulb out on my dash as well as check rear lights and back up light text on the dash. When I put the car in reverse the driver side back up light is red.
I have xenon headlights with LED daytime running lights
I have a euro switch installed
below is my scan as of the car 09 Central electronic has the errors
I have tried changing byte 18 (factory is set to 20) I have tried 21, 55, 1f, 75, 73, 43 unless I am doing it wrong nothing is working.

I have a euro switch installed Is this a factory-installed Euro switch? Can you restore all coding to prior to the error codes (including clearing the error codes). What I'd then recommend is to simply disable the cold light diagnosis feature for those LED bulbs. I'll have to look back on the coding for this. It most likely is the same as on my MK5 GTI. |

The euro switch is not factory installed but OEM I put it in a few months ago.
I am not sure what you mean by disable the cold light diagnostics feature?
everything else is set to Factory there are no other mods to the car.

For the Euro switch, did you cut, swap, or splice any wiring?
I'll post a screenshot of the "cold light diagnostic" bit which electrically checks ALL bulbs once you turn the ignition key to the ON position in the morning

No wires were cut just a straight replace with oem euro switch added the yellow wire that came with it but I didn't cut anything it just snapped in....
If I disable the cold diagnosis will it fix the red back up light on the driver's side? Because that should be white.
And if for some reason this does not work can it be undone? Sorry I don't really know much about car electronics and don't want to mess something up

Byte 18, is the only thing that can be messed up, but since you already have the original coding, you are fine to experiment as you wish.
Your car should only be coded to have 1 reverse light, and 1 fog light. It appears the car was accidentally coded to have 2 fog lights.
OR
the coding may have switched between a LHD vs RHD configuration.
I'd suggest reverting your car's coding to just before you installed the LEDs (no error codes), then simply disable the "cold light diagnosis" option.

So right now when in reverse I have the right passenger side with a white led and the driver side left red led
For what you said this is how it should be. I didn't know the Euros only have one white reverse light.

Yes. My RHD Euro car only has one reverse light (on the left) and one fog lamp on the right.
Cold light diagnosis for MY MK5 GTI is Byte 02, Bit Bit 2 for the main one (in module #9)
Then there is Byte 18 (and the listed options for each bulb location).

On one MK6 Golf, I see the LED tail-light option as the last Bit in Byte 17 under a long coding option for Module #9.
Also, Byte 23 also refers to the license plate bulb as well.
I suspect that the other coding is one of the adaptation channels. This you would have to go through one at a time to disable the option to monitor all light bulbs.
There are just so many variants of these modules with differing options
Do not under any circumstance, touch Byte 18.

If I change Byte 18 to 04, and it does not work will a backup of the Central Electronics recover the default values in Byte 18?? I'm concerned because of all the post I read (includingt this one says don't change Byte 18.
