Hello, I own a "2022 ID.4 AWD PRO S" from Canada with software 3.1 I would like to have an option to start the battery heater until it reach 20 Celsius and an option to revert to the default settings (might be different for some software version). Doing this will use more electricity but the car will charge way faster at level 3 charger, especially in Cold climate.
thanks!

Use obdeleven dongle. Battery energy module -> Output test ->HV Battery Heater. Change the timer to highest setting It will trigger the battery heating system for 5 minutes.

Hello, Please send me your VIN in private message, I will create for you application for precondition to test.

How does that work? Is it a shortcut that works in OBDeleven?

It's One-Click Application. I have a EU ID 4 GTX 2023 and would also like to be a part of the testing, not able to send PM, not sure why

Hello, this is an exciting development, hopefully we can get to a place where this is more widely functional. I noticed that the one-click-app linked below had its internal description changed from doing a more comprehensive battery precondition to the procedure here: "Battery energy module -> Output test ->HV Battery Heater - which will trigger the battery heating system for ~5 minutes." obdeleven.com/supported-vehicles?Volkswagen/ID.4/2020/battery-preconditionI assume this thread and the app in development are related? Is it not possible to do a "smart" HV heating function that stops when the battery reaches a given range, instead of just activating the Output test? Or, could it automatically be activated more than once in a row? Thank you!

What is the status of the preheating one-click app? This would be a gamechanger for me living in northern scandinavia. Is there a way to be able to test the preconditioning app? I can't see it in the obd11 app.

Use obdeleven dongle. Battery energy module -> Output test ->HV Battery Heater. Change the timer to highest setting It will trigger the battery heating system for 5 minutes. apotekarnes This actually works fairly well for now to precondition to a fast charger. One small addition to the notes above - from the "8C" control unit (Battery Energy Module), click "Change Service" and select "Development Mode" before starting the battery heater or it will give an error. You will need to get out of the car, turn the car on with the power button on the right side of the steering wheel, and release the hood (but don't have to go all the way up), for the first time starting the battery heater for 300 seconds, but can close it immediately after starting the test and can keep running the test again as long as the car is on - even if car is in motion. It heats up the battery pretty fast, too. You can tell it's working by looking at the ID.4 Vehicle menu -> Info. When the vehicle is stationary, it should read 5-6kW/h when heater is "Active" and 0.5-1 when it's not active. It heated the battery from 20-35C in about 15 minutes while driving to the charger. That all said, a one click app would be considerably easier than going through all these steps every time. *Note - test at your own risk.

I have already messed around with the output test method and measured how fast it can warm up the battery. It work pretty well and should speed up the charging nicely if used propery. However, having to stop the car, getting out and pop the hood doesn't feel like an optimal solution to me. edit: the "change service" option seem to be locked in the free version .

Out of curisousity, where did you change the service type to developer mode? I didn't do that in my test and it worked. Maybe because of the sub I Have? Also, in digging my backup logs i seem to find a place where the car could log how many coding attemps were made. Would it be possible that the output test could be known to VW and that should there be a premature failure of the PTC, that this could invalidate the PTC warranty?
Anyways, I'm continuing to test to see what can be improved but I think what is already known is about as good as it can be for now.

In "battery energy module" you click on "change service" and then "developer mode". I don't think it is needed, but I have had a bit of trouble getting the test to work without changing to "developer mode", so now I do that just in case. The reason that the log history doesnt show the HV output test could be that your aren't actually coding anything, just doing a voltage test.

Hello,
I read that there may be a way to output a signal to the coolant heather to precondition the battery prior to DCFC and like to learn more about it.
How can I get this information?

Hi, I have an ID5 which doesn’t preheat for charging. Is it possible to get an application to simplify doing this?

Trying to contact 'one click app's developer' for the one click app to test battery heater. When I try to PM, I get 'error, you are not allowed to start a conversation'. Can anyone let me know how to fix that? Thanks.

After recently purchasing the Obdeleven dongle/app, it's great to finally pre-heat HV battery prior to DCFC. I think there would be a lot of interested ID.4 owners especially if this was a one click app and even better if it did not require the hood to be initially opened.

The answer to being able to PM is that you need to post 3 replies first.

At last a set of instructions that actually work! Although it takes quite a bit of testing and fiddling around with the settings such as the Time and Temperature limits it will eventually activate the PTC Heater and you can confirm this by looking at the energy consumption which will skyrocket to 5.3 KWh/h. It is definitely NOT a convenient solution but until the awesome obdeleven development team comes up with a functioning one-click app this is the best we have. One last thing, although I do believe it is safe evpro23 is right, test at your own risk.

"Battery Precondition" application is now public and free. You can find it in One Click Apps Workshop category.
