Hello,
My MK7R does not open it’s RVC and shows a black screen on the infotainment. I have the error code with an OBD scan: B110231.
Here’s what I’ve done and it hasn’t fixed it: - Disconnected battery and reconnected after 1 hour - tried a new RVC and pop out badge - Hard restart infotainment - checked fuse - checked wires supplying camera with multimeter - checked cables for water damage - checked reverse lights and they work - checked rear wiper & washer - they work
I also intermittently get an issue where my boot/tailgate latch stays locked and doesn’t open I’m literally stuck at this point and any help would be much appreciated
Only thing I haven’t tried changing is the boot latch as I’m not sure if it’s a realistic thing to do
My car doesn’t have warranty
Also get a code for the tank lid: B126301. Tank lid works fine and not sure if this is relevant
Many thanks!

@wvr9397: Hi Need more information about this car to understand what's happened: does it have a low-line camera, or a high-line camera? A low-line camera is a "dumb" unit that simply hangs-off the hex5F module and it is triggered to the ON state by the same wire that supplies power to the right-side reverse light A high-line camera is a fully CAN registered module that is triggered to the ON state by a CAN message whenever reverse gear is selected. High-line cameras are recognized by the "bendy-lines" in the RVC screen when the steering wheel is turned. Also, has there been any coding changes made to this car? If so, please post-up a copy of the History records - preferably as an attachment And finally. please include a copy of a full (meaning unedited) SCAN report - preferably as an attachment, If you are not aware how to do this, here's the steps: - Click on Garage tab on the OBD11 home screen (you don't need to plug-in/connect to the OBD11 dongle)
- Select the car - if you have multiple vehicles registered to your account
- Scroll-down the screen and select History
- Follow the steps below (tick "Adaptations" and "Full scan" in 2nd screenshot)

Hello Don, First of all, thank you for your speedy reply. Your help is very much appreciated. My car has is a UK model and has a factory-fitted Low-Line camera. As far as coding goes, I'm not 100% sure what it has as I'm not the first owner. I've attached the files as requested. I've altered some of the codings in the past such as the sound aktor but it's never caused me any issues. Nevertheless, I've attached the requested files as requested, OBD fault scan.txt (9.59 KB) OBD full history report.txt (87.87 KB) Cheers again , dv52 (Australia)

@vw9397: OK - thanks for the attachments! First, please enable the Freeze Frame function in OBD11 (it greatly expands the data provision information for faults) and post a fresh SCAN report - please This car has a low-line RVC - because the SCAN doesn't report a module @ address hex6C. The first SCAN that contains the camera fault is dated 2023-02-13 @ midday. There are no coding change records in your History file around this time (or at ANY time) - does this mean that no changes have been made on this car, or did you filter-out these records in your attachment? If no coding changes were made - it suggests that the problem is physical, rather than coding based. If this is so, here is the wiring arrangement for a low-line camera (called "R189"): Note: if you are not aware of the VW wiring nomenclature, take the example T4bt /1 in my picture. This means a connector identified as "bt" that has a total ("T") of 4 x pins and the particular wire is terminated on position number 1 on the connector. As you can see- the circuit arrangement is very simple - there are ostensibly only 3 x wire-groups: - Power supply -wire from Fuse #18 on the "C" fuse holder and an earth wire
- Vision data - this is a coaxial cable that terminates on pins #6 & #12 on "J794" (which is the module that OBD11 calls 5F Multimedia). The black wire in my picture is the braided screen for the coaxial cable
- Trigger wire - this is the RVC turn-on signal from "J519" (which is the module that OBD11 calls central electrics). This wire also connects to the right-side reversing light. As an aside, the RVC turn-off signal is the car's speed- or a fixed time after reverse gear is de-selected.
So, my advice is to first check the power supply wires at the RVC connector. Also select reverse gear (hand-brake applied - of course) and check that volts appear on pin #4, again at the RVC connector. Don

I’d go with the put in reverse and walk round to the back of the car and see if badge is open first Also you say you’ve tried a different camera? Where did you get it from and what type?

Thanks for you responses I’ve attached a pic for the connector and I’m still to retest it. However, is the pink wire the vision data one? @dv26 My camera doesn’t open and both reverse tail lights work in reverse thee boot latch is also temperamental at times and I’m not sure if it’s linked? The new camera I tested was a genuine from breakers. I made sure the part number was exact with no deviations

Brown=earth Red/yellow=12v Black/blue=reverse light wire
Make sure there’s voltage on the brown and red/yellow, if not fuse may have popped So after checking voltage and there’s 12v on the black/blue when in reverse the emblem should open,

Hello, We retested the voltages of the wires. We found that the voltage at the connector to the camera was 4v and it was 12v as it emerged from the boot/tailgate. Therefore, there must be an issue between these 2 points We spliced the wire before the connector and tested it with another wire at the 12v point. The camera worked perfectly! We're going to heat shrink a new wire (black) as shown in the diagram in a couple of days. Just a quick question - does this red and yellow power wire only goes towards the camera or does it go elsewhere? It's going to be spliced at the 12v location too after the tailgate/boot connector. Thanks for all your help! I'll keep you updated dv52 (Australia)vwjap

vwr9397 : problem identified - well done!! Just a quick question - does this red and yellow power wire only goes towards the camera or does it go elsewhere? It's going to be spliced at the 12v location too after the tailgate/boot connector. It really does depend on the build-year, model-type and country of sale - but on most wiring diagrams in my database, fuse SC18 provides Terminal-30 power (so, permanent battery rail volts) to: - Reversing camera -R189-
- Rear lid handle release button -E234-
Again as a general comment. it appears that the red/yellow wire in my picture runs directly from the "C" fuse box to a connection in the wiring harness on the rear lid (where it is spliced into the 2 x wires for the equipment in my list above). On some models, the 2 x connections happen on an actual Coupling-Point on the rear lid. If this car has a physical Coupling-Point installed on the rear lid, the termination for the red/yellow wire should be on pin #3.

So we’ve managed to fix it added the new wire (blue) and spliced in 2 places. They’ve been soldered and then heat shrunk with glue for added protection. Works as good as new! cheers dv52 (Australia)

Hey so my issue is simila. My mk7 2015 golf tdi highline canada the back up camera just started not showing picture on the display.
The mechanism does for sure work.. it opens up but the picture is black though it does show options to change the colour of the image on the touch screen but besides that it's black. I haven't tried much yet... mostly just trying to cycle through the gears while the car is off but the power is on to the car and media center.
The camera flipanopwn but still black screen.. I then tried a hair dryer on low heat for like 20min we had a cold spell just a few days ago and that's when it stopped working... also thought maybe moisture got into the cables.. anyways it didn't work
I'll try disconnecting the batter and waiting for an hr next then re connecting it.
I'm wondering if maybe there's a loose wire.. I saw that you connected the blue wire but wasn't sure from what to what.. and why.. wasn't there already a wire in its place?
