I've found a great deal on a virtual cockpit, but it came originally from an e-golf. It's not stolen or anything, and I do have the original VIN number that belonged to the virtual cockpit. Is it possible to retrofit this into my Golf 7 pre-facelift? The part number is 5G1920795B.
Please do note that I have MIB 2.5 with the 9.2" display with navigation installed.

d4rrylke: As an over-arching response to your question - this is NOT a trivial retrofit project! The problem with swapping the dashboard is that this piece-of-kit is pivotal to the car's security facilities. The module that lives inside the dashboard unit contains the car's immobiliser facility and it also controls the keying system for the car. Re-aligning both of these facilities in the new module with the car's VIN requires a remote connection to VW's central server. Then there is the matter of the different odometer readings in the old/new Dashboards. (Almost) impossible to align these values - unless you buy a brand-new unit. Plus - this module is also included in what VW calls the "Component Protection (CP) constellation". CP is a function that VW says combats the black market for stolen parts. In essence, CP encrypts the identity of key modules in the car's CAN network. Every time that the ignition is turned-ON, the identity of these modules is checked and if a different module is detected, a CP error is generated which substantially affects the operation of the module. The ONLY official way to clear CP errors is to re-authorize the new module (encrypted process) -again, this requires a remote connection to VW's central server (it's called the "FAZIT" database). And finally, an almost inevitable consequence of replacing the old Dashboard is the loss of the long-code string on the car's Brake module (happens because the VIN identity in new Dashboard doesn't align with car's VIN). So there are consequential effects on peripheral modules for this exercise! Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that the task can't be done as DIY project - I'm simply suggesting that the DIY-er needs to be fully informed (and experienced) Don
