I'm bought a used GTI that already has aftermarket headlights. I've had it for about 6 months. The lights on the driver side has been going out one by one. It started with the side marker lights, then to the tail light, the reverse light and now the low beams. I know the issue for the tail lights. The bulb contacts on the light socket burned up for an unknown reason. New one on the way. I don't know the reasons for the other lights. Here are the fauls I got from OBDeleven.

If anyone might have any info about this before I start removing the headlights I'd appreciate it. I find it difficult to think that all these bulbs just started to go out all at the same time but idk I'm new to this platform.

With my apology as a preface if you already know this stuff - maybe some introductory comments about how the 35 x exterior lights operate on MQB platform cars (like your GTI) might help?

In the main, each exterior lamp is connected to a separate pin on the central electrics module and therefore the factory loom contains an individual wire for each lamp that terminates onto the module connector (at one end) and at the tail-light/headlight fittings (at the other end)!

The central electrics module is told how to operate each lamp by what I call "Leuchte-programming". This happens via a group of 19 x adaptation-channels that are contained in a "Leuchte-set". Each lamp has its own Leuchte-set.

The other role that the central electrics module undertakes is lamp monitoring/protection. For example, you won't find traditional in-line fuses for the lamps in the tail-lights. Instead, the central electrics module auto regulates electrical current in that it will shut down the power supply to an individual lamp if it senses an overload!

So, with this explanation as context, the interesting question in your case is: what has caused the sequential failure of lamps? Hmmm....... there are really only 2 x ways that lamp bases fail:

The copper in the lamp-base becomes loose causing a high resistance joint and resulting in elevated power lose at the lamp-base
The lamp wattage is increased causing extra current flow and again resulting in elevated power loss at the lamp-base.

In respect of 2 above, it's unlikely that this is the cause because of the monitoring/protection function of the central electric module. The circuits in the module that supply power to each lamp have their own threshold values that are factory-set for the designed lamp wattage. So it's unlikely that plugging higher wattage lamps will work

The other "interesting" option is the common element for ALL lamps on the car; the rail voltage? Have you checked the status of the voltage regulator in the alternator? Perhaps also look for error messages in the SCAN report on the module @ address hex19 (called the "Gateway" module by OBD11)? This is the module that regulates the operation of the alternator's battery charging profile.

Update: Turns out all the light faults are correct. The headlight was burned out, the cornering light isn't plugged up, the side marker lights are not present in the aftermarket headlights. The rear lights is because of that bulb socket part burning up which I already know. The door entry code is because I don't have those lights in the doors. Now the red light on the seal of the door isn't working not sure why but that's not a major concern.
