Hello,
My DRL’s turn off when I switch to low beams at night. Does anyone know how to keep my DRL’s on when low beams come on? 2015 Golf R NAR

So, this is a NAR model? Hmm...... for obvious reasons related to the fact that I happen to live in the very, very deep south - I'm not sure if a MY15 "Yankee" car has what's called "NAR (lighting) restriction". If you haven't heard of this very odd (to me at least) facility - it's a regulation that applies to cars in your country that limits the total number of permissible headlight lamps that can be illuminated to four. Again, the restriction baffles me - but I believe that it's a regulation in your DoT rules (another document that I have never understood)
The possibility of NAR restriction in this case is a complication which I will address as a secondary matter - but my first suggestion is that you try this:
Depending on the type of lamps that your car uses for the DRL function - look through the 8 x Lichtfunktion channels for the Leuchte-command Standlicht vorn (Positionslicht; Begrenzungslicht) for each Leutche-set below. Change this to Standlicht allgemein (Schlusslicht; Positionslicht; Begrenzungslicht). There should be ONE instance of the change in each Leuchte-set! If your car has incandescent type DRLs - Leuchte4TFL LB4
- Leuchte5 TFL RB32
If your car has LED type DRLs - Leuchte4TFL LB4
- Leuchte5 TFL RB32
- Leuchte2SL VLB10
- Leuchte3SL VRB21
If after you have made the changes above - the DRLs still don't illuminated with the low-beam lights, then you will need to deal with NAR restriction - I think?
I've chosen the video below (which was made by a long-time colleague from another forum) because it has the advantage that the voice on the video happens to be American. So no accent - for you!!
The instructions in the video are about VCDS, but the same steps apply for OBD11. Please ask if you want any clarification. Don

Hi Don,
Thanks for some useful info! I am still getting to know the leuchte channels and their functions (especially being in a different language) so please bare with me. After review of my leuchte channels (leuchte2, 3, 4, 5) I am unable to find any setting you described. Please look below at my leuchte5 TFL RB32 settings for reference:
Lasttyp 5 - 6 LED Lichtmodul
Lampendefektbitposition - 44
Fehlerort mittleres Byte DTC-DFCC 5 - 4B
Lichtfunktion A5 - Tagfahrlicht
Lichtfunktion B5 - nicht aktiv
Dimmwert AB 5 - 127
Lichtansteuerung HD AB 5 - Always
Lichtfunktion C5 - Blinken rechts aktiv (beide phasen)
Lichtfunktion D5 - Parklicht rechts
Dimmwert CD 5 - 127
Dimming direction CD 5 - Maximize
Lichtfunktion E5 - Nicht aktiv
Lichtfunktion F5 - Nicht aktiv
Dimmwert EF 5 - 0
Dimming Direction EF 5 - Maximize
Lichtfunktion G 5 - Nicht aktiv
Lichtfunktion H5 - Nicht aktiv
Dimmwert GH 5 - 0
Dimming direction GH 5 - Maximize

Yes, I entirely understand the novel nature of this stuff for those that haven't confronted Leuchte-programming before - so we can go as slow as you want (i.e. you can set the pace)
Hmmm.......... that's a very odd set of values for Leuchte5 TFL RB32- even on a NAR model mk7!!
I've been reading Leuctche-sets for many years and I don't believe that I've ever seen such an "innovative" bunch of values!! Most certainly, the settings in your post are NOT factory values! My conclusion is that someone has tinkered with this Leuchte-set in the past (and in a bad way)!
So, in the "go slowly" mode and as an example of the oddity - take the group of channels from your response below: - Lichtfunktion C5 > Blinken rechts aktiv (beide phasen)
- Lichtfunktion D5 > Parklicht rechts
- Dimmwert CD 5 > 127
- Dimming direction CD 5 > Maximize
I call this a "Leuchte-pair" because it contains a pair of Light-Functions (i.e. Lichtfunktion - "C" & "D") - there are 4 x Leuchte-pairs in each Leuchte-set!
The command Blinken rechts aktiv (beide phasen) is used for what's known as "DRL-wink". This is where the DRL lamp will switch-OFF/dim on one car-side whenever the turn signal operates (DRL-wink accentuates the turn-signal lamp for drivers in other vehicles) Normally (read "always"), the DRL-wink command is associated with: - Dimmwert CD 5 > 0
- Dimming direction CD 5 > Minimize
These 2 x values, tell the central electrics module to minimize the illumination level of the DRL lamp to zero whenever the right-side turn-signal (i.e. Blinken rechts) is active.
On your car, the values for the 2 x channels above are nonsensical!! And mixing the DRL-wink command with Parklicht rechts (which is the Single-Slide-Parking-Light command) on the same Leuchte-pair is even more bizarre!!
So, how to move forward? I guess that I need to see what other "innovation" has been wrought to the remaining other 3 x DRL Leuchte-sets on this car. If you want to proceed, you can post-up either OBD11 screenshots, or a list of settings - but I need to see ALL 19 x adaptation channel values for each Leuchte-set

mk7golfr : Well........... again, those screenshots contain a very "innovative" set of Leuchte-programming values!
I can see a strange consistency in the cross Leuchte-set values, but I'm unable to understand the objective of whoever made the coding changes to the 4 x Leuchte-sets.
I'm not sure what you want to do - but given the existing state of the coding, the easiest way forward (I think) is to accept the broad nature of the values in your screenshots and make minimal changes. This should achieve the want in your original post "to keep my DRL’s on when low beams come on".
However, the minimal change approach won't be the same as factory coding for NAR cars and it won't provide DRL-Wink.
If this is acceptable - I suggest the following changes:
Leuchte2SL VLB10 & Leuchte4TFL LB4 - Lichtfunktion C > Standlicht allgemein (Schlusslicht; Positionslicht; Begrenzungslicht)
- Lichtfunktion D > Parklicht links (beidseitiges Parklicht aktiviert li & re)
Leuchte5 TFL RB32 & Leuchte5 TFL RB32 - Lichtfunktion C > Standlicht allgemein (Schlusslicht; Positionslicht; Begrenzungslicht)
- Lichtfunktion D > Parklicht rechts

You are the bees knees! Those subtle changes worked and I couldn’t be more appreciative for you taking the time to help me out. Thanks Don.

how would you code for the DRLs to dim down when the low beams come on?

zeljkod: Hmm....... the only way that I can respond to such a vague/general question is say that you need to change the values in the Leuchte-sets that control these lamps. And on some cars (mostly mk7.5s), you can't make any DRL changes at all! Don
