Hello there,
I have been lurking around for a while but never posted; couple of months ago I bought a MK6 GTI with 135,000 km (~83 thousand miles) on it; car seemed to have been taken care of as was noticeable per the interior and was full original apart from an LPG kit which was fitted into it (this bit is relevant *). The car runs amazing, apart from the check engine light which comes now and then with 4 codes.
I'm not as interested in the codes per se, but would like to understand a bit better how they interact / trigger the check engine and how the colors play a role in this.
So here's what I know from looking up the forum, prior to starting this new thread: the color codes have meaning in the generic sense that:
- red: static error, it will not go away
- green: sporadic error, may go away eventually, does not always trigger a CEL
Here's the 4 codes I've consistently get after resetting them via the app (I've put them in order of concern, starting from "does not present any immediate concern" and ending on "I should probably get it checked asap"):
00857 - CD changer No signal/communication [STATIC]
03138 - Input AUX IN Open circuit [STATIC]
------------
B108B71 - Fresh air, recirculation, air flow flap motor Actuator jammed [INTERMITTENT]
P2015 - Intake Manifold Runner Position Sensor/Switch Circuit Range/Performance [INTERMITTENT]
Let's start with the most relevant imo: the P2015: from what I've seen most if not all MK6 GTI's wil run into the P2015 for a multitude of reasons; so I will def want to look into this more carefully but at the same time want to make sure that this is what is triggering the occasional check engine light, because otherwise I would start by getting the other things out of the way.
Here's my questions:
- I believe the P2015 (green / intermittent) error is what is triggering the CEL, given it has to do with the intake; is it safe to assume that an intermittent error, given enough re-occurrences, will trigger a CEL? (would it still be considered intermittent / green, or would it be scaled up to red / static?)
- I wouldn't expect a CD changer / radio, or even an air circulation issue trigger a check engine light, but given that this is marked as red / static, could it be that any red/ static error, independent of the control module it belongs to will straight up cause a CEL?
- In some screenshots from other folks, I see more information on the actual codes, like the times an error was seen (re-occurrence) but in my app I don't; is this a premium feature? I've attached what I see on my version, below. From my understanding this is a PRO feature.
(*) Note: The LPG system being fitted to it means the intake manifold has been modified to include 4 bronze 'nipples' which take in the compressed LPG (indirect injection); I could and would gladly get a brand new intake manifold, knowing that if I wanted to keep the LPG feature I would have to have these nipples refitted; given I don't do much commuting right now, I could ditch the whole LPG, but it's a nice-to-have atm.
Any help appreciated,
