On the mk8 do we have access to the central electronics adaptations to adjust the LED brightness for the taillights? There's a video by shopdap showing how to do this for the mk7. They first use 31347 then make the changes. That code doesn't work for the mk8.

Also, please be aware that the rear lights will behave differently.

I purchased euro LED tailights and the brightness is different between the inner and outer. When I tried to adjust the brightness following the guide for the mk7.5 I got an error "function not available". I thought I was checking the wrong light but I tried many, changing the "dimmerwat" from 127 to 100 always resulted in "function not available".

It looks like the BCM is unable to dim these channels. Either it is a non working configuration between Leuchte Typ (this sets how the dimming is made, either via Current Limitation (incandescant/halogen) or PWM (leds) or even not allows this, so only 0 and 127 are allowed) and the used output of the BCM is not able to dim properly and constantly. An admap of the leuchte channels for the high leds would be helpful, I can check if I have something ready to share.
Again some remarks here: *The OEM fixtures are using a dedicated single, daisy chained wire from the BCM to the lights to control the dynamic turn signal. So to enable them you will either need to code and refit this wire or bridge them properly (but not sure if this will mess up the diagnosis). Also, the turn signal runs through all 4 fixtures and also needs to wired. In case there is no turn signal in the inner ones or they do not credit the dynamic enable pin, I am rather sure you bought a chinese copy.
*I have never seen G8 with visible brightness differences between the rear lights. Also, there is no service procedure to adapt them. So this looks like a hardware fault to me at first glance.

These aftermarket sets have a built in dynamic turn signal that functions as long as you provide all four parts with a constant 12v, which I did as show below. It's optional so if you don't connect it you get normal turn signals. No coding is required.
As for the brightness issue this appears to be a common problem, ShopDAP has a video adjusting the LEDs on the mk7.5. If you skip to two minutes into this video you can see what he does with OBDeleven

When you adjust the brightness how is that accomplished?
1. PWM dimming done by the car 2. PWM dimming done by the LED module (inside the taillight) 3. Voltage adjustment by the car
When you say BCM, is that in the car or the LED ?

Just to get everything correct: The original high leds for EUR are using *Parking light, all fixtures individually wired and controlled by BCM (4 wires) *Brake light, both outer fixtures individually (2 wires) *Turn signal, all fixtures individually wired (4 wires) *Dynamic trigger, one wired daisy chained or distributed (1 wire) *Rear fog, one outer fixture (depending on the driving side, 1 wire) *Reverse lights, outer fixtures (2 wires)
You will see that every fixtures has a spare pin, not wired and not installed in the connector. This is likely reserved for LIN-Bus, which is not used for the outher lights in the Golf right now.
Some side note first: The BCM for the MQB-Series was able to dim almost all output pins in both approaches, some pins even with high current: Current limitation (for bulbs) and PWM (for LEDs). In MQBw, the functions have been reduced (lesser parts, cheaper, not used anymore like current limitation for rear lights). Also, there are interlocks with datasets. So in the end, there are similarities to old MQB, the logic is still the same, but the old approaches need to be retought.
The lasttyp setting tells the BCM what dimming approach is to be used. Rear lights are dumb with no intelligence or diagnosis circuits (Golf 8) or are a LIN Slave (Octavia), while LIN proramming is out of reach for OBD11 and all other tools.
So everything should be done in the BCM (Central Electrics). As promised, here is a admap from a Golf 8 (EUR, IQ-Light, Variant), reduced to the rear lights, Values not listed shall be set to 0, Maximize or nicht aktiv:

So there are, against my memory, some Leuchte settings which are always set to 60% which should be checked. In case these settings are not having the desired effect, I would like to blame the lights to be bad knockoffs. I have seen plenty of Golfs with these rear lights and never had the idea that they are off regarding the brightness

Thank you. I used the light driver power in the live data to determine the two inner taillight circuits
Driver's Side - Leuchte 28 RFL L C11 Dimmwert ABC 28 - Original is 127, your value is 60.
Passenger's Side - Leuchte 29 RFL R A64 Dimmwert ABC 29 - Original is 127, your value is 60
I changed both to 60 but it didn't seem to make a difference, however I'm going to wait a day since there's sometimes a delay. The only other setting for these lights that differs is "Lichtfunktion J28/J29" which is not active for me, but you have "Ambiente Exterior 5" I haven't checked this function yet.
I also ordered a PWM 12v dimmer to see if I can directly control the lights.

No good. Dimming the inner taillights to various amounts didn't work. You are probably right about the third party lights not matching.
