"He used vcds so no history to track"? Hmm.....I don't think so!
I know this is a OBD11 forum and there is lots that VOLTAS does different to VCDS - but your statement is NOT true! . In fact, given that VCDS predates OBD11 by many, many years - my hunch is that VOLTAS was actually inspired by the "History" facility that was in VCDS for their own version of the facility (but maybe I'm wrong)!!
So, you could try lots of guess-based fixes using OBD11 and it probably would be a long and arduous process - or you could go straight to the VCDS history facility and find the actual change that your friend made , thereby likely saving yourself lots of hassle!!
To do this- do this: - Fire-up the laptop that your friend uses to run the Ross-Tech software
- Assuming that your friend doesn't use Ross-Tech's BETA software (i.e. he/she uses the standard release SW) - navigate to the sub-directory below using MS explore:
In this folder you should find a bunch of files- the number of which varies depending on the SW version. Ignore the contents of Readme.TXT - it's misleading and it's totally wrong! The 2 x files of interest for your task are: - AdpLog.CSV
- CodingLog.CSV
Open both of these files using something like MS Notepad, or MS Excel - the wonderful thing about these files is that they have a "flat" indexing structure - unlike the crazy set-up of OBD11 records! - As the file-name implies:
- AdpLog.CSV contains the history log of any changes made to adaptation channels
- CodingLog.CSV contains records of changes made to the long-code string.
- Each entry in these 2 x.CSV files references a particular module and every record is date stamped - so it should be easy to find the changes made by your friend.
