In the US the SE trim does not have auto high beam assist, but I think it might be enabled with OBDeleven. has anyone successfully coded this?

Likely it can’t be because it utilizes a sensor that knows to turn off the high beams and if you don’t have the feature enabled, likelihood is you’re missing the hardware on top of the software. That’s my take on it, I could be wrong. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

The SE does have the rear view mirror with the sensor on the back. I believe all the hardware is there, it’s a question of where to go in OBD and click the correct parameters so that they are the same as the Autobahn edition, which has auto high beam assist.. The issue I’m not sure where to go in obd…
Here is a guess: Central Electrics 09 Adaptation Fernlicht assistent The 3 menus under that (menuesteurung, reset, werkseinstellung) are alll “not present” or “not active”. Should I make them all present and active?
Multifunction Module 4B Long Coding High beam assistance: it shows Not Enabled. I guess I should enable? Other menus like City light, highway light, rain light, all weather lights all show Not Enabled. I’m not sure what Mdf activation and Glw activation do, but they are also not enabled.

Generally speaking: LightAssist is controlled by SWaP or FoD with FEC 0x10020800. Yes FeC is used in the BCM to allow the "Auto" setting at all.
Since the MFK-Camera is standard, there is no extra hardware needed, it is just coding and enabling said FEC (The latter is not possible).
Still, this is the coding: 09: LCM: Expanded high beam control: Increase one ( I do not know which setting is used for NAR, but you description should include "FLA" or "High beam assist") Fernlicht Assistent: Activate all three adaptions. This will allow you to enable and disable it in the radio. Disabling the reset does not work. 4B: Coding: Enable High Beam Assistant NOTE: According to some sources, this is not needed. Please try it without first. Coding 4B will fry you basic setting for dynamic headlight range. You will need to do basic settings afterwards. Either write down the live values and try to recreate them or fill up your tank, empty your trunk and have a workshop do the basic setting for you (with this preparation, you can recreate the loading easily and do it yourself) A5: Coding: AFS Coding Light Assist: High Beam Assist
When the menu items do not show up after coding 09 and letting the bus rest, it will be the missing FeC.

I did see the thread on this forum where a member had issues, but I have already coded the “Presentation mode” of the headlamps when starting the car using 4B, I do not see any errors, just wondering if only specific 4B coding creates issues.

Yes. Two things to consider: Coding fries the basic setting which needs to be redone. Changing adaptions is fine. Changing the coding to something odd can result in completely undesired behavior, as you can activiate functions and features in the software which are unsupported by the hardware.

Thanks! So to summarize, changing Adaptations in 4B are fine. But you may play with fire when it comes to Coding. Good to know, if I do try to enable High Beam assist I will try the adaptations only and see what happens. It’s not a feature I really need anyway, but nice to have if it can be enabled!

HI! So did you finally manage to activate the high beams assist?

HI! So did you finally manage to activate the high beams assist? No, it never did work. There are ways to do this for the Autobahn trim (or the highest trim level in your country), but the SE requires different coding from the factory. There is someone on the Facebook MK8 group that has access to this (Anthony, his website is ACM Technik LLC), he can also enable the European Matrix lights, but on the SE it is expensive.

I wonder if you flash the software package for the Matrix LED onto the US modules it just starts working How expensive is it to get Matrix LED in the US from that person?

Wow only $350 ? Can I bring my EU version to US ? Here is at least 2200 euro for 2 headlights and WITHOUT coding.

Supposedly they have fewer internal LEDs than the ROW versions so the blocking is less granular. As such, there is no hardware changes involved, just software.

Auto high beams requires a SWaP code to be activated back end for your vin on an SE. I am the person that does the matrix and had the SWaP code enabled. There is no other way. I personally cannot do this swap code activation so you unfortunately cannot do the full matrix activation. The price is $450 for remote and $400 in person. The price I paid to have the SWaP codes activated was around $2000 after conversions.
