Hi,
New user here. I was wondering if ODBeleven can be used to check the voltage that my alternator is putting out. Any direction on that appreciated. Thanks

gaetanol :Hi The OBD11 app does display a voltage reading (see the screenshot below) - so in this sense, it has an indicator of the the alternator voltage. but it's not a useful way of providing accurate measurement of true alternator voltage because the reading is measured at the OBD port, rather than at the battery (i.e. there will be a sizable Volt-drop @ the OBD port pin) However, on a MQB platform car (like the Gokf mk7/7.5) the Gateway module is the controller for the alternator and it does have a range of self diagnostic functions related to the alternator operation. To access this information, do this: - Start the engine and insert the OBD11 dongle into the car's OBD port
- Fire-up OBD11 software and connect to the dongle
- After the device connects to the car's CAN network - go to the Control Units screen by pressing the starred panel on the screenshot below
- Select the Gateway module
- Select Live data
- Scroll down the list of options, or use the search facility to access the required measurements
