I’m having an issue with my 07 gti. I had regular bulbs in the rear for a while and one blew out so I decided to change over to LED bulbs for the rear. Now when I turn on my lights the rear tail lights do not turn on for running lights however they do work when I press the brakes and use the turn signal. If anyone know of a solution that would be great. I do have an OBD eleven pro and just trying to find out what’s going on but I can’t seem to find anything for why my taillights con turn on for running lights as I can’t drive at night until I get it figured out.
Also I don’t know if it’s relevant but I’m in the US. I don’t know if it’s different between country

By now, you would have realized that the internal resistance of LEDs are significantly lower than those of Halogen/incandescent bulbs. Whenever you switch ON the ignition, your car does a quick diagnostic check by passing a current to each bulb to measure the internal resistance. In the case of your LED, this is a low, so your car either says the bulb is either blown or shorted (generates a fault code and illuminates the warning light on the dashboard). Your car uses PWM (pulse width modulation) not a steady 12V to the bulbs themselves. Since the car doesn't see the bulbs as "present" or working, it isn't going to waste energy powering them.
Your 3 options:
1. Revert to new regular bulbs 2. Swap to CAN-compatible LEDs with a built-in resistor or manually solder a resistor across the terminals of the bulbs so the car still sees them as present. 3. Use OBDeleven to disable a feature called "Cold light Diagnosis" in either module 9 or 46 (I can't recall which one at the moment).
