Hi, I've got myself in a bit of a pickle.. I've got a 2017 Golf MK7 from Canada and I'm trying to get it to work for the European market, where a lot of people seemingly can't work with English.. I tried my best to convert the original unit to an EU one following some procedures, but we couldn't find the right firmware for it to work. We couldn't upgrade it, either, as we didn't have an old enough NAR version of the firmware. As of recent, I bought an EU unit from Germany and I plugged it in. Works fine, had to do some procedures to disable component protection. The 2 main issues I encountered were: - The low reversing camera doesn't work, in the sense that I get the box for the camera on the display, but the output is black. The camera is stock with the car and works fine on the other unit. - I couldn't change the clock for some reason. The car originally used a plus model, so it also had SiriusXM and a GPS antenna, while the new one is a regular standard unit without either. I don't have a DAB antenna for obvious reasons.
There are also other smaller issues but those are the main ones. One interesting thing is that on both units, if I enable the adaptation for the VDS or whatever it was called for the camera, it stops being displayed on the display. If it's disabled it shows up (and works on the original unit). If you need anything else please let me know! Thanks in advance!

Have you checked that the high camera is not enabled, because if both are enabled then nothing does indeed show on the display
Don’t enable the Vcd (or whatever that’s called) as I think that’s for highline Just enable the camera in the long coding

I can't seem to find anything relating to the high RVC - regardless of what I do, if I enable the VSP adaptation it just stops showing on the display, and otherwise just shows a black image. For reference, the car has no PDC. I did the usual 5F byte 19 bit 4 enabled, then adaptation of 5F to enable VPS and set it to the comfort databus. Nothing on the screen. Disabling VPS from the adapation I have no signal. No idea honestly. Clock stopped working yet again, and there's this weird thing where I see ParkAssist as an option and every time the display is turned on it tells me it's unavailable - it isn't enabled anywhere in coding.

The enabling of the canbus lines will confuse the unit, the lowline hasn’t got canbus, just live earth and open wires, the open wire goes to the reverse light, so it’s dumb, so don’t enable them The highline uses canbus but you can remive the canbus setting add have it a a lowline by setting the long coding You can’t have both together

So, from what I understood, I keep the long coding as-is and revert the changes to the adaptations, which is what I did. No signal. Also, I see an "incorrect coding" fault which doesn't surprise me - I just don't know what I need to change. Copying over the long coding from the other unit caused other issues when I tried it, but I can't tell you which ones exactly.

gmauto : Here's a comparison of the long-code string for the "old" and "new" units: new old Byte Hex Binary Hex Binary 00 02 00000010 02 00000010 01 36 00110110 73 01110011 02 00 00000000 00 00000000 03 00 00000000 00 00000000 04 BE 10111110 FF 11111111 05 00 00000000 00 00000000 06 00 00000000 00 00000000 07 00 00000000 00 00000000 08 41 01000001 51 01010001 09 11 00010001 11 00010001 10 00 00000000 00 00000000 11 01 00000001 01 00000001 12 02 00000010 00 00000000 13 09 00001001 18 00011000 14 02 00000010 28 00101000 15 00 00000000 00 00000000 16 1F 00011111 1F 00011111 17 05 00000101 01 00000001 18 00 00000000 00 00000000 19 D4 11010100 D4 11010100 20 01 00000001 01 00000001 21 00 00000000 20 00100000 22 01 00000001 01 00000001 23 00 00000000 00 00000000 24 02 00000010 02 00000010
As you can see, the relevant software switch for RVC-low (Byte 19, Bit 4) is set on both units.
Of course, we can't see what's happened to the adaptation channel database, but I assume the following: - Car_Function_List_BAP_Gen2:
- VPS_0x0B = Activated
- VPS_0x0B_msg_bus = Terminal 15/Infotainment data bus
A general observation about the long-code table: If this was my car, I would at the very least align the value of Byte 2 because these 8 x Bits tells the hex5F module what car type ("Car_Derivate") it is installed-in!

Having restored the VPS_0x0B to Activated after setting the 2nd byte to 0x73 results in the same having nothing on the screen for the camera. Absolutely nothing shows up, as if it wasn't ever installed. I tried setting VPS_0x0B_msg_bus to the infotainment bus from the comfort bus, to no avail. Also tried setting it to terminal 15, nada. Not sure where to go from here.

You checked the pins are actually there? What unit did you put in?

Of course, the pins are there. I have not changed *anything* compared to the other unit I was using, a US MIB2 Plus (Delphi) unit. The one I plugged in is an EU MIB2 STD (still Delphi) unit.

Check your part number
These don’t accept camera
5G0035819A, 5G0035820A, 5G0035820, 5G0035819 und 5G0035812

I've got the 3Q0035819C, which isn't part of those, so I'm not sure what the issue is.

gmauto : hmm....... so, I'm clutching at straws but maybe this isn't a coding problem (yes, I understand that you simply changed the module). I would still eyeball pin6 and pin12 (see below). Check that they are not bent, or pushed-in and also check the integrity of the coaxial cable ends - particularly the inner wire (it can happen when unplugging/plugging the quad-connector!!)
Also, does the rear VW badge flap actually open? If not check whether the right-side reversing light illuminates

I also think I read that discover up to part number ...820 does not support many new functions. I found this in a camera description. your part number means MIB1, and a camera is supported from MIB 2 and newer.

falcon: I guarantee you that the unit is MIB2. I literally did things that are only possible on MIB2 units to unlock it.
dv52: The badge opens up fine, the cables and connectors are fine.

gmauto : My bad - I accepted your conviction that 3Q0035819C is camera compatible, but I should have checked !! It isn't!!! Do a Google search with the following search vector (include " exactly as written) "3Q0035819C" "camera". You will read in the hits that sellers of the RVC say stuff like NOT compatible to Composition Media with part numbers: 3Q0035812, 3Q0035819, 3Q0035819A, 3Q0035819B, 3Q0035819C, 3Q0035820, 3Q0035820A, 3Q0035820B, 3Q0035820C, 5G0035812, 5G0035819, 5G0035819A, 5G0035819B, 5G0035819C, 5G0035820, 5G0035820A, 5G0035820B, 5G0035820C

Well, that's kind of rough. Thanks for all the help regardless, I'll see if I can find a different module.
