Hi,
I'm new to the OBDEleven and have been using it on the mk8 GTI. I just have some general requests to improve how it works:
1. Automatic backup of everything for every new vehicle.
Everything that can possibility be changed should be backed up if a new vehicle is detected. This should be stored on your server, emailed, and stored on the phone.
Since shops might do small changes on many cars you can have a preference to turn this off but it should be on by default
2. The history export should separate scans, adaptations, apps , backups, etc into separate files which are zipped then emailed.
Basically the scan data and backups are a large amount of text and I was looking for what apps I changed
3. The apps should save the original value they see when a VIN appears .
App
Name: DRL ON with AUTO
Original value: ON
Old value: ON
New value: OFF
4. Refund on half the app credits if you revert the value within 24 hours
I know you currently offer a full refund if it's reverted within a short period but what if you allowed a longer trial period and just took half the amount back? I was playing around with settings and didn't realize how many credits I used. Of course this is on me but maybe half refunds would make people more willing to try settings.
Stores aren't legally required to allow returns on products in the US however they almost always do within a set time because research shows people spend more if they know they can get their money back.
5. Fix translations
This may make me sound like a jerk but it's easier to be blunt: Obviously the original data is in German, which is fine, however we really need everything in English
Suggestions:
1. Allow user submitted translations which can be voted on in the app
2. Use an auto translator and store the results with the app, then when that phrase is read from the module translate it if it matches
3. A button that submits a line to google translate
6. Make text selectable - It's not possible to copy much of the text in the app. So if you want to ask for help you have to take a screenshot or type out the words. I wanted to translate "Direktauswurf_heckdeckel" which I assume means a "That dwarf has a heck of a dick" but I couldn't copy and paste it into Google translate. This is so frustrating
7. Increase use of cache -
- If you are in the module list and you swipe down it does some sort of hardware scan again. This is just the list of modules, I can't image it would change.
- If you go into a module, then leave, it takes a long time as well. It already knows what modules exist. Is it scanning more details about them?
8. Hardware - Make a OBDEleven reader that has a USB C connector for your phone.
It's possible this is Android auto interfering but everything is so slow. Disabling android auto is a hassle so I can't turn BT off on the phone because it won't connect to the OBDeleven device and disabling it in the car is a hassle., I just rather make a wired connection. I don't need to move around, I don't need to create distance. I'm just sitting in the drivers seat, next to the OBDeleven device.
Thanks!
