Basically what it does it checks that all the control units you have listed against your car are installed on the car.
If you have missing control units it will add them in
If you have added in control units that your car does not have (they will be black in color) then it will remove them.
Least that is what it does on my motor.

Thanks, although I read the the post you mentioned ( support.obdeleven.com/en/articles/6563867-what-is-the-autocode-gateway-list ) I think it is not clarifying anything. I always see a list of the available units of any car. So why this dialogue asking Autocode gateway list? And what "autocode" means... I do not want to make changes to a car without having a very good reason and a full backup first. But this dialogue appears the first thing when device is connected to the car, not sure if a backup is automatically created, and alsa, again, I do not want to make changes to the car of someone just like that. For me it is still unclear what this is and how it works. The post from support is very very short with no context.

My understanding is that the Autocode gateway function basically checks and identifies the following issues
1/ Control Units that are not current in your list of control units
2/ Control Units that have been added but are not on your car.
Personally I tested this by removing control unit A9 (My car has it although I have turned it off) when I ran the connection with Autocode set to on this control unit was added to the list of control units (which is the correct thing to do when you have asked the auto code to fix your setup issues)
Secondly I manually added in a control unit that my car did not have. Again when the autocode gateway process ran it Identified that i had a control unit shown in my list and correctly removed it because it was not there.
The only time I would worry about this process is if you have a control unit that for some reason is not connected to the network (and this would show the color as Black) I am guessing (never tested it) that this would be removed as its not in the live network.
But if you are nervous about the process keep saying Cancel and tick the DONT SHOW AGAIN BOX. all I can say is I have been running it like this for over 5 years with no issues.
Secondly you could always go to Settings and change the autocode gateway list and change it from Show to Hide
