I have a series of airbag faults after a water leak. They look like old faults, no new faults appear in latest scans.Live data indicates the airbag controller is operating correctly.

When I try and clear the fault codes I get a message saying "An error occured while trying to clear faults. Please check ignition and try again". It is only the airbag controller module that does this. I can clear faults in other modules.
I have tried with ignition on and engine stopped, engine running, bonnet closed, bonnet open.
It is a 2011 Audi A1. Can anyone help me with this ?

hmm......... with the caveat that I'm NOT an expert on your PQ25 platform car, maybe the following observations might help explain the problems that you have identified:

First- for the sake of clarity, let's separate the listed items in your data-log into 3 x categories as follows:

Category 1:

B101600 - Frt.pass. side airbag disabled indicator lamp
B200600 - Control module does not match vehicle

Category 2:

B200000 - Ctrl. module faulty

Category 3:

B100B1B - Driver thorax airbag igniter Resistance too high
B100A1B - Front passenger side airbag igniter Resistance too high
B102715 - Front passengerseat occupant sensor Open circuit/short circuit to B+

For Category 1 - note the following in the error description items:

Date: 2022-07-05........
Malfunction frequency counter: 28

So - here's what these 2 x data points suggest (to me, at least) in long-form story prose:

These errors were first registered in fault memory on 5th July 2022 (at the times indicated on your log). Since this date and up until the date of the data-log (which was 8th August 2022), the exact-same errors reappeared on 28 subsequent ignition cycles. There are 34 days in this interval

For Category 2 - the same analysis as for Category 1 above applies - except that there were 17 x re-registrations of the exact-same error in an interval of 32 days.

So, assuming that this car's ignition was not cycled on each and every day in the respective intervals above, it's reasonable (I think) to ask the question: why do you believe that the Category 1 & Category 2 faults in the hex15 module are no longer valid?

For Category 3 - Malfunction frequency=1 - so maybe these are "aged" errors, albeit the nature of Priority 1 faults in this module may have stopped some/all of the Category 3 errors from being re-registered -perhaps? I'm guessing, of course!

Finally, none of these 6 x faults should be considered trivial - but the 2 x B2xxxxx errors are of greater concern (to me). Since I don't know the full back-story for this car, the actual importance of these particular faults in your attempt to resolve the error messages is unclear (to me)!!

I'll try and answer following the order of your categorisations

Category 1:
B101600 - Frt.pass. side airbag disabled indicator lamp
Is this saying there is an indicator lamp disabled or pass side airbag disabled ? If indicator lamp, where is it ?
I ran a scan today and the malfunction counter remains at 28
B200600 - Control module does not match vehicle
This one concerns me but once again the counter remains at 28

Category 2:
B200000 - Ctrl. module faulty
Once again, as of today the malfunction counter still remains at 17.
Also there are two instances of this in the log, one with a count of 17 and one with a count of 1. Both registered on the same day. Sounds like a glitch to me.
The main reason I believe the control module is ok is that all the live data looks ok. All airbag values measure ok. The occupancy detection and seatbelt switches can be shown to be working by conecting and disconnecting seatbelts and sitting in and getting out of seats.

Category 3:
B100B1B - Driver thorax airbag igniter Resistance too high

These faults all appear to be no longer present as indicated by the current live data values.

We purchased the car second hand about four years ago. Up until recently we have had no issues whatsoever. It was only with the recent heavy rain that we discovered the windscreen seal was failing and a large amount of water entered the car, mainly down the left and right edges of the windscreen. The airbag controller did not appear to be badly moisture affected as it sits fairly high behind the centre console.

So, to my way of thinking I should be able to reset the error codes ?

What country is this? If this is a NAR model (USA) - does the car have a passenger seat Airbag on/off button- see below? If so, I suspect that this may be the reference for the B101600 - Frt.pass. side airbag disabled indicator lamp error

Have you physically eye-balled the state of the hex15 module? Did the leak extend to water ingress into the module housing and/or the module connector?

The fact that the Malfunction frequency numbers are not increasing with subsequent ignition cycles is encouraging

Have you tried disconnecting the battery for a period of time? If you don't already know - air bag modules usually contain a largish backup power supply (it's normally a high value capacitor). The purpose of this alternative energy source is ensure that the airbags can still fire the igniters if the car-battery is damaged during a crash. This means that the battery disconnection period requires a long wait (about 15 minutes) for the back-up power-supply to discharge. It's also prudent to connect the +ve/-ve battery leads together during this period.

After the battery is reconnected, the hex15 module will go through an extensive series of self-tests to ensure all peripheral equipment is OK. If ALL these tests are passed - the air-bag light should reset on the first ignition cycle.
