Not sure that I understand what you are asking - but there are a number of modules in a mk7 Golf that register the car's traveled kms.
With the advanced security on MQB platform cars, I would be extremely surprised if anyone outside VW/Audi could tinker with the odometer reading on the instrument cluster - but I guess that it's technically possible!
Anyhow - if you want to be sure of the car's odometer reading, you need to access Live data using OBD11. As I said, there are multiple modules that you could try - but maybe start with the the modules on the Powertrain CAN bus. I suggest the Engine module @ address hex01, or/and if the car has auto-transmission, the Transmission module (Mechatronic unit for dual clutch gearbox) @ address hex02.
And, if you still want more proof - maybe look in the Dashboard module, which lives @ address hex17 on the Convenience CAN bus
The actual procedure goes like this (a PRO account is not necessary): - Turn-ON the car's ignition (no need to start the engine) and plug-in the OBD11 dongle into the car's OBD port
- Fire-up OBD11 software and connect to the dongle
- Navigate to the Control Units screen (similar to picture below) and select one of the modules that I list above
- Scroll down the list of options for the chosen module and select Live data
- In the search box, enter words like "mileage" or "distance" and place a tick on any suitable entries that are returned
- Press Done and read the values
- Repeat steps III-V above for another of my suggested modules
- Exit OBD11 software and don't forget to remove the dongle from the car's OBD port
The values from multiple modules might not return exactly the same values, but they should be similar - of course this assumes that the modules in the car are the original units that were installed at the factory!!
Don
PS: since you are playing in the car's Live Data records, another vital piece of information for a potential used car buyer (IMHO) is the entries in the Airbag module which lives @ address hex15 on the Powertrain CAN bus.
If you enter "number" into the search box for this module (step V in my instructions above), you will see a list of the number of crashes involving deployment of airbag/igniter for the car - again of course, with the current installed module. These records are separately itemized as: - rollover crashes
- frontal crashes
- side crashes - separately for driver & passenger side
- rear crashes
Always good for a potential buyer to see zeros values for this data!!!!!

I used it when I was looking at a used car last year. It gave me peace of mind knowing the mileage was legit. The last thing you want is to end up with a car that’s been tampered with. Also, if you’re thinking about buying from out of state, I used cross country car shipping for my last vehicle. It was super simple, and they kept me in the loop the whole time. I was a bit nervous at first, but everything arrived in great shape. Just make sure you do a thorough inspection and ask for all the service records to get the full picture.
