Please do not reset the basic settings unless needed. Thoughtless resetting will misalign your low beam levelling So skip this step. Everything else - yep. Fine with them, works with out the basic setting

Actually, I was replying to somebody posting a procedure to enable presentation for matrix headlights. Procedure was fine, followable, but had a "do basic settings"-step, which is not needed and will - as pointed out - misalign the height regulation when done untoughtful.

Yes, sure. This is untested and written down by heart:
Select Control Unit 4B. Do an SFD unlock. Following setting are all adaptions. Switch on: Presentation mode Presentation run dynamic AFS light (this will tilt the headlights up and down) Reference run run activation effect (this will switch on all high beam segments in wave)
Set reference run start condition to Motor start (or similar). Ignition can cause problems. Order reference run activation effect - unsure, please test it. Ideally, it should ignite the matrix segments while the afs has the lights at the lowest point.
In the end: Relock SFD, clear faults. (Or just be bland like me and let SFD time out)

Awesome! Thanks. Also im like you, I never manually lock it either lol. You also wouldnt happen to know of a way to enable the turn signal animation as well? Or is that not possible?

Just tried it: Presentation mode not needed. I am still unsatisfied, as the animations still not match.
Turn signals are always hardware, there might be an exception for iq light in denmark, but thats it.

If I were able to purchase genuine IQ Matrix Lights for front and/or rear, do you think I could retrofit them and retain proper functionality with little to no modification needed software wise?

That requires a module reflash to a different software via ODIS. The US software 1447 for the module locks out the ability to do a simple change like that. And yes I have tried and know this from experience.
Also, to answer why I deleted the post it was because I was going to get video and photos but had not had time yet. Posting from a phone doesn’t allow me to actually post photos either. So I need a computer which is another problem entirely.

Refit in the back: 2 wires from bcm to trunk (inner turn signals), 1 wire from bcm to all fittings (signal to enable animation).
Refit in the front: You do not to reflash the 4B - the software is used for all regions. Magic is inside the datasets. There is one dataset describing the light functions, one is describing the matrix configuration. If the first one does not fit, you lights will do anything, but not the functions desired (yes even frying them is possible), the second one is describing the matrix segments assigns them to the viewfield. This is one is entirely missing for LED plus. Wiring? No idea if you need to run extra wires between 4B, D6, D7 and the actual lights.

I already know im not going to be doing this anytime soon as its going to cost me around $2,000 just for the parts alone for lights of all things. But in the event that I am willing to purchase them, I wanted to know if its possible to have them work on a US spec version of the vehicle. From this it sounds like it is... I guess... How easy it is im not sure lol

I looked into the wiring diagrams from an EU spec. The wiring is all the same both EU and NA. Everything is legitimately done via software. The 4B from EU runs the 4B module 5WA 907 338 with software revision 1372. The NA uses 4B module 5WA 907 338B with software revision 1447. I’ve actually discussed this with a retrofit company in UK. Also the central electrics 09 modules are different as with different software revisions. EU uses module revision J with software revision 0132/0135. NA uses module revision L or sometimes G or F with software revision 0175. So the actual modules are physically different. Wiring is all the same.

Actually, Rev B is a software revision, and 1447 was introduced with MY22 and is still valid for MY23 in EUR. We have succesfully upgraded a FCM from 1372 to 1447 - including the index change. The BCM should not matter here. There are different versions, depending on the communication frequencies for the immobilizer, but the BCM does nothing more than to populate the HBA request on the bus. (Furthermore, the main software branch should be identical, since the main part number matches).
When there is no difference in cabling, I am 99,5% sure that with the correct parameters/datasets in 4B and of course coding the matrix headlights will work in a NAR car. There are two datasets known in 4B: 7100: "AFS" - this also controls the general light functions, associating circuits to the light request from the bcm, the adaptive behavior and so on. This dataset is mandatory 7101: "MXB" - is controlling how the matrix segments are assigned. This one is obviously missing when the headlamp is not able to do matrix.

I made it working a few weeks ago. When I turn on the vehicle it enable the procedure of animation of matrix headlights. But when I drive there is no animation when turn on or off like it used to be.

There should be no turn on / off animation while driving.
Turning the lights on and off after starting the engine does not have any effect with the high beams.
The only animation while driving is the curtain-effect when matrix is engaging and there are no other objects. But this is not affected by the adaptions as far as i remember

That exactly my finding: It is not as smooth and nice as it should be. You are free to play around with all the presentation settings. I would love to have the same effect the MDF-Lights (Golf 7) are having: *Dip down *Do the animation *Go Back up *Done

I think that it cannot do animation when the lights are already on, and they are lowest position... because bottom led row are already on. You can see some kind of flashing at the end of my video when the animation still continues.
Maybe there is a way to add some delay to driving lights, so it can do the animation at first?

The G8 Matrix has 44 Segments in the Matrix (11 columns, 2 rows in each headlight). The lower row looks like a extended dipped beam (used for the bending lights and asymetric dipped beam) in the video, but having an even surface, it has a longer range. The flashing is a change of the AFS scenario, affecting the lower row.
I see no technical reason for having both motions separate, as in driving, both function are working together. I am unaware of any delay. I just assume that since that feature did not make it to production, it was just left in that state when they decided to not implement it.

My car already had quite a few of these settings enabled as highlighted above. I actually remember asking for this in the forums a couple of months back (https://forum.obdeleven.com/thread/13804/presentation-mode-iq-lights)

I notice since setting this I loose the bendy lights when cornering i.e headlights dont turn with steering ( sorry don't know the correct wording) O think the little light segments illuminate but not enough that you'd notice. Is there a way to keep this presentation setting but keep the bend lights ?

I thought that matrix leds will not move/turn. Only cornering lights up when driving slowly.

Haven't done this mod, but yes, that's the only time I notice the cornering lights, at slow speeds. I.e. a turn after a complete stop.

I was wrong.
They move just couple degrees. In sport mode they move faster than confort mode.

Yeah, was about to say I didn't notice any difference in the "bendy lights" / Dynamic Cornering Light function after enabling the presentation run.
And I feel the need to write this for all the Golf 8 haters out there every time:
YES the Golf 8 w. Matrix IQ lights, have real turning cornering lights. Individual light segments emulate the swiveling function from the Golf 7. YES it works just as good, NO it's not another bashing point for the "ohh bad Golf 8" crowd.

Hey guys just did this but I'm wondering if it's normal for the rest of my lights to turn on after the animation has run? It seems to get noticeably brighter at the end...
