nicola: hmm......... "directional headlights"? I assume that you mean "Dynamic Bend Lighting"? If so, how this assist facility operates depends on the Drive Mode selected. Try selecting a different mode - maybe? Don

Assuming you have equipped OEM headlights, there are two variants of Xenon, while both variants are able to bend: * "Basic" Xenon with a simple magnetic shutter, no Dynamic Light Assist (blacking out other cars). * DLA Xenon, capable of "masking" objects and cars detected by the camera. Has two servo shutters.
How to distigunish between them: * The magnetic shutter is quick, turning on the highbeam will have an instant effect, no slowly opening the shutter visible. (Plus the shutter is coded in the 09 als FL-Leuchte). When your high beams are working when flashing with lights off, this will likely be your installation. * The servo shutters from the DLA are a little slower, you can easily see the shutter going up and down. The shutters are controlled by the 55 control unit, so there is no fernlicht-shutter in 09 coded. Plus, there is an issue in the parameters of this, which cannot be fixed. When having the lights off (or DRL on) flashing will not open the shutter, you are just turning on and off the dipped beam.
And, of course, the "presentation" or reference run for both types differ. When starting the car with lights off, you will not see any presentation of reference. The mechanics work, but since the bulbs are off, you have no visible feedback: *Basic Xenon will just move up and down *DLA will move up and also opens and closes the DLA shutters, going down, opening the high beam and closing the mask, which results in a black spot right in front.
Now to the coding - these are all adaptions, so there is no issue with basic settings getting reset: *Reference Run Start Condition: Always set to Engine start. Otherwise, the height regulation can get stuck, leaving you with falsely set lights (Greetings to the Superb III Team here :-) ) *Additionally, you will find "Presentation run dynamic afs light" and "Presentation mode". Both are activated for DLA, while "Presentation mode" should be off for Basic
Also, you can check the coding (attention, basic levelling setting will be reset when writing coding): There is disable_afs, which should be set to "MFA+" - the other setting will interlock dynamic lightning to the light switch, disabling it on manually turning on the lights (Used for cars with offroad-profiles and - interestingly - Octavia 3s). But this should not interfere with the presentation.
