Hi All
Anybody has the coding to add the Interior lights to the MMI, to have Footwell and ambient lights. Thanks

kcurpen. not sure ... maybe try setting Interior light: light configuration-Frei_Farbwahl_ueber_HMI to active in central electrics module

Hi Don
Thanks for your reply, this is what I did (below), but nothing appears on the MMI. I will the Frei_Farbwahl_ueber_HMI and let you know soon.
I got these codings that was done on an A3 2016, mine is facelift 2020, can there be a difference in the coding for the 2020?
Module 5F
Car_Function_List_BAP_Gen2:

Long coding , set ambient_light to active
Thanks Kevin.

is your A3 a 8V/FF (MQB platform), or is it a 8Y/GY (MQB-evo platform)? 2020 is the build year for change-over.
I assumed in my reply that the car already had footwell lights and all that you wanted was illumination control on the MMI

Hi dv52 (Australia), I have the 2014 Audi A3 that never came with both footwell and ambient lights,I have retrofitted the lights and I am trying to code it to be controllable from my MMI....I used the adaptations mentioned above, I have the Interior Light option on my MMI now but I can't access it as it is greyed out...

maday007 : When you installed the new wiring loom for the ambient lights - on which socket/pin-number on the central electrics module did you terminate the +ve wire for the new footwell lights? Don

I got an AliExpress kit, the footwell light and dashboard lights all connected to a receiver which was then connected to the mib

hmm........ I really am not sure how these footwell lights operate - but the OEM method is to control the footwell lights via the central electrics module (the MIB is used to dim the lamps). Again, I'm not sure - but the Aliexpress unit doesn't appear to be a VW factory method. I suggest that you go back to the seller

Hi dv52 (Australia), I was finally able to get the ambient/interior light option available on my MMI(turns out I missed something in the above) but they don't actually control the lights....yet.

Hi dv52 (Australia) , I could not get the MMI to control the lights (not surprised as you have made that clear that it would've been near impossible). My next attempt, is to find a fuse slot that comes on on unlock i.e seeing as the ambient lights come on when ignition comes on, I'd like to find a fuse slot that goes live when I unlock especially at night. Do you think this is feasible?

maday007 : hmm.......... so, I'm not sure if you are aware of DIN 72552 ("DIN" = Deutsches Institut für Normung =German Institute for Standardisation Registered Association). If not, I suggest that you Google the term. DIN 72552 is an industry Standard and it defines a Terminal-designation system for automotive electrical systems. The word "Terminal" (T) in this industry Standard means conditions in a vehicle that give-rise to a +12V status. For example, perhaps the most common form of "Terminal voltage" is: - T30 = hard +12V which is live regardless of any switches in the car
- T31 = car earth
- T15 = switched +12V when the ignition key is turned-ON
DIN 72552 defines Terminal 58 as +12V (i.e. battery rail volts) related to the control the instrument lighting, display lighting and the locating lights in the buttons. VW/Audi then further define 3 x sub categories of T58 which on MQB platform cars (like the Audi A3 8V) is as follows: - Terminal 58xs (formerly terminal 58s): Switch locating light
- Terminal 58xt (formerly terminal 58t): Switch locating light with when door opened/when key removed from ignition
- Terminal 58xd (formerly terminal 58d): Display and instrument lighting.
Although VAG defines "switch locating light" differently as in I and II above -in truth Terminal 58xt corresponds to terminal 58xs with additional advance and trail function. Terminal 58xt is pre-activated if, for example, one of the following events occurs: - Vehicle is unlocked
- A vehicle door is opened
- The ignition is switched on
And Terminal 58xt is deactivated if, for for example the ignition is switched off.
For your purpose (i.e. finding a voltage supply "that goes live when I unlock especially at night"), Terminal 58xt is the solution!
So, the discussion above is the theory - the way that this theory is implemented on an Audi A3 8V with standard interior trim is like this: J519 in my diagram above is the control unit that OBD11 calls central electrics module.
So as shown in my diagram, the T58xt voltage supply for your car is generated by pin#67, socket C on the hex09 module. You won't find a Terminal 58xt wire that is terminated on any fuse-slot on an Audi A3 8V because this pin is self protected by circuitry inside the hex09 module.
