Retrofits of ACC do require a Swap release code generated by VW when there is no Feature on Demand available. Typically, you cannot obtain these codes.
With FoD, this is constantly checked with online servers, which is worse, since there is constant verification in the background.
Addition: There are plenty of ECUs which need to be changed for a refit, the steering wheel buttons need to be replaced (no coding possible)

Hello Newty
Sorry for pulling up an old subject, I'm concerned by the subject of the SWAP, do you think it's possible to do the following: - Change the Vin of the ECU with the vin of a Golf which already have this feature (Donor). - Update the software according to the vin of donor vehicule. - perform coding according to the donor vehicule.
do you think will work? I'm planing to do the same to activate the driving modes (Sport, Eco, Confort)

Reminds me of old times :-) Nope, I think they fixed any VIN approaches. Changing the primary VIN should not even be possible and would invalidate almost all secured communications

Yes, you are right. Even though, you can flash a dataset with a non-matching VIN to the module. In most cases, you will get the flash accepted, but the module won't work as intended. Additionally you will have a static DTC in the Central electrics or Gateway warning you (and your dealer) that you have a Dataset mismatch (ask me how I know). You might try to edit the dataset (if you know at which address the VIN is stored) and recalculate the CRC checksum to sign the edited dataset. After this, you would upload the edited dataset to the module. To do that, you would need the original dataset, extensive knowledge and tools other than OBD (and far more sketchy). I would not go this route, for much smaller retrofits I paid in money and in time a lot more than just buying the car with the feature from factory. VW really tried hard (and succeded by a good margin lately) preventing unauthorized modifications to the cars.
