Hi, does OBD11 support also the later car platforms like MLBevo? I know that some other tools (like VCDS) need new OBD hardware to fully support this type of cars. What about OBD11? And one more question: As stated on the OBD11 homepage, the currend dongle firmware is v4.1. Does OBD11 provide firmeware updates for existing dongles in any way (maybe to support new car platforms )? Thanks

To answer at least one of my questions by myself: from some OBD11 owners I got the information that with the first time usage of the latest app version 0.8.3.7 together with the bluetooth dongle, a dongle update (firmware?) has automatically been initiated. So this means that the BT dongle in fact is upgradeable in some way.
Anyway - I'd very much like to get some official statement on that. What's more: if buying a OBD11 dongle now, will it ship with the latest FW which is compatible with the app version 0.8.3.7?
Concerning the MLB evo platform: as you can see and read everywhere, some owners of current models (for example Q7 4M or A4 B9) based on MLBevo complain about not being able to get a complete scan or access all CUs with OBD11. So some official statement on this would be mostly welcome too.
Thanks.

The OBDeleven dongle will always self-update to the latest firmware once it is made available and the phone it is paired to has an active internet connection. There is nothing fancy about MLB. I'm sure it still runs on CAN with UDS functionality en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Volkswagen_Group_MLB_platform

I'd recommend you to mention that on your internet product page MLBevo: So, in short, OBD11 does fully support cars like A4 MY 2017 and Q7 MY 2017 with all available control units?

Hold a moment: I'm in no way affiliated with OBDeleven or the development team. I'm just a good Samaritan helping others use the tool in conjunction with Ross-Tech's VCDS. My OBDeleven dongle did a self-update of the firmware yesterday when I was using it to clear the error codes in my car. To answer your last question: Yes, OBDeleven is able to support those 2017 vehicles with all the available control units. It may not have the channels, adaptations, bits&bytes labelled (for the end-user to know what they are doing), but they are accessible just the same. auto.ndtv.com/news/what-is-volkswagens-mlb-platform-all-about-1449884I've seen threads on this forum where OBDeleven does not readily identify some 2017 models, but I don't think it is really protocol related. I'm sure the development team will release an update to rectify this issue as Ross-Tech has published updates for VCDS without having to roll out a firmware update for their micro-CAN cables.

First, thanks a lot for your well-informed answers - and sorry for having you assigned to OBDeleven by mistake. I just thought that you, being a Mod, are an official representative of the company. No offense meant. Well okay, let's assume that the OBD11 dongle will handle the 2017 MLB cars just fine. As you know, RossTech has released a new OBB2 interface (HEX-V2) for full MLBevo support, and I believe that the older RossTech interfaces doesn't support all CUs of this car generation (but I may be wrong). This is why I asked about the situation with OBDeleven.

This is why I asked about the situation with OBDeleven. Give me a moment to check on this. I did some coding changes on 3 x 2017 cars last week, but I need to check to see if I could access and control all modules. I had no issue doing the initial scan or changing the options that the customer wanted to have changed. store.ross-tech.com/shop/vchv2_ent/ Since the price is so cheap, I'd buy a Hexnet V2 to add to my collection (althogh it is limited to 3 or 10 VINs) I suspect that the Ross-Tech team will stop rolling out firmware updates for existing cables to force folks to buy an updated cable so that I can be locked into the 3 or 10 VIN and stop using it commercially.

I recently got some more information about the MLB.evo issue: Obviously, it's the BCM 46 of the 2017 MLB cars (mostly Q7 4M and A4 B9 so far, maybe the latest A5 as well) that the older VCDS dongles (other than HEX-V2 and HEX-NET) can't access. I was told that this is because the VAG group for the first time ever used the CAN 2.0B protocol with four device addresses (instead of two) with this given CU, and although this protocol has been around for quite some time, the older VCDS dongles still can't cope with it. So, as I unfortunately don't have a brand new Q7 or A4 around to do the testing for myself whether or not OBDeleven is capable to scan the said CU - does anybody have the opportunity to do so? I think, lots of people would be very grateful to know about that.
