Hello,
Just wondering if anyone has come across a way to have the Coming / Leaving Home feature activate no matter the brightness outside.
So, I have been looking around the *Internets* to see if this can work. My question is: Is this function, CH/LH dependent upon using the sensor behind the rear view mirror? If this is the case, one could just tape the correct sensor making the CH/LH feature think it's always dark out. Every time you unlock the vehicle the lights would come on for your specified length of time, same for when you lock the vehicle, daytime or night time. Black Electrical tape worked great for the VCR's flashing 12:00pm, might have another use for it.
Cheers! JR1965

Is this function, CH/LH dependent upon using the sensor behind the rear view mirror? Yes. That is correct. You have the option of coding your car to have a different windshield (thus affecting the refractive index that the sensor measures. You also can adjust the sensor's sensitivity to light. You can also adjust the interval between light changes (such as driving under a short tunnel) keeping the lights ON for longer than just that period. The only real way is to tape over the sensor as you mentioned, but this will interfere with your wiper blade's operation as this sweeps over the rain sensor as well. Obviously, you would leave your headlight knob in the AUTOMATIC position permanently for it to work.

Thanks Matthew, makes sense.
It's not worth losing the features that the sensors provide for a small cosmetic change.

You can still change the coding to make the lights come on earlier and stay on longer than stock settings.

Do you mean by adjusting the time they stay on via the MIB? Thanks JR1965

Your lights can stay on for a maximum of 60 seconds (1 minute).
You can also change the adaptation values to make the sensor more sensitive so that it turns the lights on earlier, and turn them off later (giving you about an additional 20 seconds)
Hence you get about 1 minute and 20 seconds for coming home / leaving home time. Changing the value for the type of windshield installed in the car makes a difference as well. After playing around with my MK5 windshield options for a few days, I left it back at stock (but the time set at 1 minute)

Thanks again Matthew. I will play around this weekend and what I can come up with. JR1965
