First time post, long time fan of the forum and all the expert advice.
My car is a 2016 MK VII GTI Autobahn Edition, Stage 2 COMB Tune, APC Intake, ECS Perf Stage 2 Clutch, Militek downpipe and exhaust pipe. I just purchased the car so still learning about it. Blast to drive
Having an issue hoping you can help with.
I had a license plate light bulb out, and replaced them with LED based on some forum advice.
And when i went into the APPS and did RETROFIT it was already set to LED. Further research I found that the LastType in the retrofit may not apply to the bulbs I purchased.
This is where everything went wrong....So I was looking around in the Central Electrics in the APP, and I changed the Security setting to I beleive 3147 and then started looking around for the option.
And somehow I changed something. My car started to post a bunch of random alarms and freaking out. To the point where I can no longer connect to the ECU with the ignition on, but can with limited access with ignition off.
Looking at the app and under car history it looks like I changed the Diagnostic Session under control unit from VW-Diagnostic Mode to Programming Mode and then OBD-Diagnostic Mode.
I have not started the car yet in fear that i will mess things up worse.
Hoping you can help guide me. I know based on the forums that I should not have went into the app further not knowing what I was doing. 1st time for everything, last time it will happen. I am afraid that I have corrupted the ECU and it will need to be replaced or something.
Any ideas how I can get this diagnostic mode switched back?

mains: hmm.......... from your words, it doesn't sound like whatever changes were made is going to be fatal!! Most likely, it will be just a matter of unwinding the changes to "old value" from the history records. If you want a more informed opinion, post-up the contents of your History records (I assume that there aren't too many records) Here's a pictorial instruction of how to digitize your History records so you can cut-and-paste the contents into a new post: Don

Thanks DV52, let me get those copies over. Was hoping I could roll back the changes. Right now my mechanic is researching the issue. He is not sure. Hopefully what you say is a possible fix. Car is still out of commission.

Looking at the log, its has my old 2012 GTI vehicle info and its history.
This part is from the new car and the only items I believe I changed.
Diagnostic session
Control unit: 09 Central Electrics
Value: OBD-diagnostic mode
Mileage: 104658 km
Date: 2022-02-27 14:28:42
---------------------------------------------------------------
Diagnostic session
Control unit: 09 Central Electrics
Value: Programming mode
Mileage: 104658 km
Date: 2022-02-27 14:28:00
Once I figure this issue out i will reset my ODB app garage entries, so it shows my 2016 GTI correctly.
Let me know what you think

hmmm...........You can think of the diagnostic mode as being the software environment in which changes are made. So, of itself, changing the diagnostic mode doesn't do anything unless actual changes to adaptation channels are altered. In your case, I can't see that you made any changes whilst in "programming mode". I assume that no one-click-Apps were used (these aren't reported in the History records). Are there any actual problems with the car?

Hi Don after your last post, and how this was not adding up. I went back to the car and noticed the battery indicator on the app was red, got my multimeter out and found the battery close to dead. less then 10v. I hooked some jumper cables to the battery. Waited a few minutes and then connected the ODB module to the car. Before ignition I had 9 faults and then with ignition on I had 49. Battery charged up and went green on the app. I then hit start and the car started right up. I cleared all the faults. Had about 11 left, cleared them again. Had 3 left and took the car for a ride and all faults cleared. I am back up and running. I am replacing my battery its 3 years old and the volts not reading right. After driving my multimeter is only pulling a little over 12v. I am glad this was not a bricked ECU and something simple. Appreciate the sanity check from you and your feedback.
