I have a Golf MK6 1.4TSi Twincharged (160PS) with engine code CAVD, but cannot find the specific car in the car type menu of OBDeleven, so I've selected something near (Golf MK6 GTi). The software correctly identifies the engine CODE as CAVD, so does this mean it is correctly set-up for the TSi engine and not a GTi engine?

It does not really matter which vehicle you select. The only issue is when you choose a 2 door vehicle when you actually have a 4 door (you just don't see the rear doors unless you manually select those two addresses). If you select the wrong car, the graphic image will be incorrect, but the correct list of modules and features should still be listed as OBDeleven interrogates the Gateway module to find out which modules are actually present. The only caveat I see to picking the "wrong" chassis is that the One Click apps are going to be slightly different. From what you describe, I wouldn't worry about it.
