This Obdeleven device looks just what I want, but before taking the plunge and buying one can anyone tell me if this device has Long code helper Like in VCDs? I feel more confident in using tick box with little description of action than just input different values in boxes what I can't get my head around.
Thank you in advance

carpetdaz : Short answer is "yes" - but VCDS has 2 x versions of the long-coding helper ; the grey screen and the yellow screen (sometimes wrongly called "experimental" screen). OBD11's data for their equivalent of the long coding helper is more like the yellow screen in VCDS Don

I just bought OBD11 for my 2022 VW Taos but there are no (zero) bit descriptions for any help with long coding. From what I can tell, VCDS would be much better with long coding helper. The long coding options on OBD11 seem worthless if no one has created bit descriptions. Unless there is some other way to get big descriptions off the web or another tool...?

I would need the bit descriptions robc or would not have the know how or confidence to change stuff. Surely there must a bible or guide available to give you a description and what value doe what etc.

Personally, I don't believe that either diagnostic device is particularly better, or worse than the other, They both have their advantages and disadvantages which are largely the result of personal preferences - IMO, or course.
AFAIK, the "official" long-code descriptors for these modules (especially for UDS/ODX protocol modules) are obtained from a wholesaler. And whilst I don't know for certain, I would be very surprised if both manufacturers didn't use the same supplier (how many different companies offer this very specialized service? - not many I would think)
So, I've no doubt that a 2022 TAOS - won't have descriptors. It takes time for the wholesaler to add new modules from the very latest cars to their products. BOTH devices suffer from this (quite understandable) problem!!

I agree with Don/DV52. I use VCDS,OBDeleven, Autel, and a strange copy of ODIS. What I can say is that the information shown in all of them is pretty much the same. I consider OBDeleven to be the most "portable" solution to connect to any VAG vehicle. I consider ODIS to be the "original" that always has a direct connection to VAG's mothership server to do things firmware updates, immobilizer, and ECU replacements, and odometer corrections. ODIS also includes wiring diagrams and guided funcions for repairing issues. VCDS and OBDeleven does is at the enthusiast level that doesn't do what is listed above (for licensing and legal reasons I assume). Autel, does the same thing as OBDeleven and VCDS in a nice package but also includes OEM things like calculating the online coding for a BLANK ABS module over the internet (from some server).
My unbiased answer to Carpetdaz' question is: check Ross-Tech's wiki thread for the information and coding instructions for the specific vehicles to be worked on. If it seems sufficient, then buy OBDeleven as a plug and play solution, and if there is an issue then one can look at the Ross-Tech wiki (and browse the forums) for the answer.
In summary, one can't beat the OBDeleven price. What is also invaluable is browsing through Ross-Tech's forums as "someone is bound to encounter the issue previously", and as such the repair steps are "free".
I can say Autel is a direct "copy & paste" of ODIS in terms of the Guided Functions. VCDS gives me that same feeling as it relates to the labels for some of the general steps.
The reality is: an authentic copy of ODIS is not cheap, A J2534 Autel tool is not chep either, The cheapest copy of VCDS new will still cost more than OBDeleven. You get the best of both worlds by purchasing OBDeleven, and looking through the online VCDS content for free.
