Hi all, I am new to OBD coding, but I have some kind of general understanding of how it works, playing around with software, bit and bytes since years for passion and work. So I recently bought a used 2016 Golf GTI from a dealership, I have no idea if the previous owner has attempted any OBD coding whatsoever, but what I found out scanning the car is that I have error B201000 on Module 17, looking on the forum it seems like it could related to some messed up coding or substitution of components on the car. Anyhow my long code for the Module 17 is quite weird here the details: Descrizione sistema: KOMBI Numero software: 5G1920756A Versione software: 6420 Numero Hardware: 5G1920756A Versione Hardware: 302 Nome ODX: EV_DashBoardVDDMQBAB Versione ODX: 009046 Codifica completa: 07AD09082B80000801082A001400000000000000 It has for example the well known bit 0 of byte 1 set to 1, it should enable the gauge test at startup anyhow I haven't it and if I try to code it I receive an error, probably due to the bit already being set. Moreover, I see this configuration is standard for my hw/sw version? It is exactly the one reported there: vagcode.info/components/180d1b245acf01b6effe24598f03fd23.htmlDo the previous owner messed up the long coding an maybe attempted to recover to a wrong configuration or in which condition am I? Thank you all for the support

Alex: Hi Error B201000 is "No basic setting" message - which generally means that a new piece of equipment, or a new functionality has been installed (maybe via coding - but not necessarily) that requires initialization.
Whilst anything is possible, it's probably premature to start worrying about "Control Module Incorrectly Coded" because these modules have a specific error number for this fault- it's U101044.
As to what is causing your B201000 error - I'm not sure. There aren't many Basic setting function in the hex17 module - ostensibly they relate to petrol tank calibration, resetting the MOST counter and immobilizer - KESSY key. Have a look yourself!!
