Hi guys,
New to the world of OBDeleven and already used some of the apps. Great info on this forum.
This weekend I’ll be fitting an ORIS towbar with a dedicated cable wiring set from ECS electronics on my Golf 7.5 GTE from 2017.
From what I understand it would require coding to deactivate rear sensors, display the trailer on my discovery pro, check lightning on the dash etc. I’m having troubles finding the right instructions on how to activate the tow bar on my Golf 7.5.
I would highly appreciate if someone could write a step by step procedure for my first coding. I’m sure once I’ve done this I’m ready for more to explore :-)

iddqd : Hi. Your deceptively simple question hides a complex answer - unfortunately! If you think about how the trailer function integrates into the car's CAN network - I'm sure you will agree that it impacts on the activities of lots of other modules. Plus, simply identifying "Golf mk7.5" and "ORIS" (not familiar with this maker) really doesn't narrow-down the vast range of possible options in the way this car was factory built - or, where on this fragile blue planet the car was sold (both of which have a significant impact on the correct coding for the trailer function).
So- I can't provide a specific answer (alas) - but in general (emphasis on "general"), coding for the OEM version of the trailer function impacts on the following modules:
Again, please note that the changes above may not be complete - it depends on what other options are fitted to the car

Hi Don,
That's great info, thank you for taking your time to help. The message is clear, I shouldn't take it too lightly but interesting stuff to find out :-)
It's an MK7.5 GTE (the PHEV, not sure if you even have these down under) and it is from France, if that helps.
Most of your steps make sense to me. Unfortunately I can only try it next week but I would like to prepare myself. Some specific comments/questions on your steps:
09-central electrics: A mk7.5 likely won't have an active long-code string on this module (depends on when the car was built). If this is so, the module should have the adaptation channel: Networking - Anhaengeranschlussgeraet - which should be set to installed (security code 31347 will be required) It's an early MK7.5 (registration May 2017), you mean the newer the car, the bigger the chance there is no active long-code string on the module?
76-Parking Assistance: set Byte 3, Bit 0 - for manual hitch, or Byte 1 for pivot hitch (security code 71679 may be required - depending on module type) With pivot hitch you mean the OEM style towbar which swivels underneath the car with the trunk button? Mine is just a simple detachable towbar which I can take of manually.
17-Dashboard: depending on module type (AID?), set Byte14, Bit 5 It does have the Active Info Display
Some other option fitted to my car that might have influence on the trailer coding is the blind spot detection, reverse camera. If I understand correctly, afterwards I should also be able to code trailer-assist as I do have the PLA3.0 with 10 sensors (5 front, 5x back). But let me focus on activating the trailer itself first!
Any further tips will be highly appreciated. Thanks again.

iddqd : France? OK - as I said, I'm not familiar with the ORIS. From the manual, it seems that the associated 69-module is purely for EU - so it doesn't need to cater for USA style turn-signal lamps "It's an early MK7.5 (registration May 2017), you mean the newer the car, the bigger the chance there is no active long-code string on the module? "Yes - Look in the info part of OBD11 screen for the 09-module - if it reports a long-code string, then you need to set Byte 1, Bit 1 instead "With pivot hitch you mean the OEM style towbar which swivels underneath the car with the trunk button? Mine is just a simple detachable towbar which I can take of manually."OK, so Byte 3, Bit 0 on your car "Some other option fitted to my car that might have influence on the trailer coding is the blind spot detection, reverse camera." I've added the other modules to my list (better to keep them in the one place - I think)

Great stuff, thanks for helping a newbie out on his first coding! As said, I won’t be at my car until next weekend but I will update you how it went.
