ok, first post, some offerings to start with, then a question.
I've got a 2016 A6 3.0L biTDI. 53,000miles
I recently received a particulate filter warning. Long story short, a few (long) drives later, limp mode.
WTF
With trepidation I took it to Audi
£560 so they could tell me it needs a regen (they wanted to rule out a dead 'DPF diff pressure sensor' ahead of the DPF which requires the header pipe upstream of the DPF taking off (the sensor is on the exhaust manifold just as the exhaust curves around the gearbox after the turbo and all that.... so only barely accessible from underneath this way.
Then they wanted an extra £220 to do a regen.
I said.... nah... give it back please.
Went to pick it up and I'd caught them off guard (they'd only had it a week...) and they had just stuck all the old nuts/gaskets back on, to park it whilst they figured out when to bring it back in and get on with things.
Perfect, I said... gimme the nuts and gaskets and i'll do that myself. By this stage I'd worked out that the DPF on my model was a 'dual can' thing underneath the car....not one of those ones buried next to the turbo near the firewall.... perfect. Can I grab the brackets for the rear of the DPF please (£25ea x 2, old ones rusted AF)
I took the car home, drove it up on some sleepers and removed the DPF (it takes longer to slide under the car than to unbolt the 5 nuts holding it on)..... took it to a professional cleaning company and they flushed it with hot water for £240 all in... better than a regen I feel... as the soot is flushed and all the ash is now gone too.
Now.... why did the DPF fill up? My Thoughts...
A DPF won't regen if......
The engine management light is on.
There is a faulty EGR valve.
There is less than 20 litres of fuel in the fuel tank
The fuel light is on
And… I was told… it won’t regen if towing!!!
My particulate filter light came on after driving 150 miles with a trailer on the back and the engine inspection light on (I figured i'd leave it on to remind me to do the inspection myself.... right indicator.... left indicator.... blah blah), and the subsequent long drive, which triggered limp mode.... you guessed it.... light still on.... AND TOWING again....
f&%£en perfect storm.
DPF now blows 407m3/h vs 264m3/h of air prior.
some pics attached for reference.
Now for my question.... How TF, do I now reset my DPF statistics or whatever the data is called.... that is used to calculate how full my DPF is....since it is now freshly flushed and empty.
Thanks in advance
