thatlolcar & tamir1998 : Hi - somehow I missed both your posts (I blame old age and an over-fondness for single malt - killed millions of brain cells!!) The problem is that these Chinese Rotary-light-switch/Light-sensor combinations are not OEM. It's therefore anyone's guess how they integrate into VW's factory arrangement!
Have you tried telling the central electrics module that you have replaced the factory rotary-light-switch with a unit that has an AUTO position?
If not, it depends on the build year of your car as to how to do this: If the car is built before mid-2016, go to the long-code string of the central electrics module and set Byte 7, Bit 5 (it's called LDS_mit_AFL in the descriptor part of long-code) If the car is built after mid-2016, the central electrics module won't have a long-code string. Instead, go to adaptation and change Außenlicht_uebergreifend - LDS_mit_AFL to yes.
If this doen't work, try this:
- Go to the central electrics module
- Select adaptation
- Depending on the build year of the car:
- If built before mid-2016, in the search box, enter "Assist" and select Assistance light functions
- If built after mid-2016, in the search box, enter "uebergr" and select Außenlicht_uebergreifend
- Select Fahrlichtwarnung_Hinweis_Konfig (which means "Driving light warning note configuration")
There are 4 x allowable options for this channel as follows (note: LDS = LichtDrehSchalter=Rotary-Light-Switch)
- Kein Hinweis - No warning note
- Hinweis in LDS-Stellung Null - warning note when LDS is in 0 position
- Hinweis in LDS-Stellung SL - warning note when LDS is in Parking-light/Side-light position
- Hinweis in LDS-Stellung Null und SL - warning note when LDS is in 0 position, or in Parking-light/Side-light position
- Select option 1 above

This worked for my 2017, thank you so much! For me, it was under Central Electronics > Adaptations > Aussenlicht uebergreifend > LDS mit AFL Cheers!!

Never mind. This didn’t work, I didn’t get the warning last time I tried because it was bright out and so the headlights weren’t actually on 😅
Any other possible solutions would be much appreciated

As I said, the problem is that the switch/light sensor is NOT OEM. If you tried both of my suggestions and they both didn't work - I'm all out!!
Contact the switch provider - maybe?
