side assist coding

Side Assist is the name in the US market for blind spot assist that uses radar in the rear bumper (Spurwechselassistent in German, or lane change assistant).

for example the instructions say

"Address 19 (installation list): Add address 3C"

"Address 13: by clear text or byte 3, set bit 4 to 1."

etc.
I think "Address" is refering to the control unit number (19 is CAN gateway, 3C is side assist, etc.). I think "clear text" is a translation issue and refers to checking boxes or something rather than typing in numbers. .

I am actually having an issue connecting to some of the control modules, but I read somewhere that can often be fixed by forcing a reboot by disconnecting the battery for 10 minutes (this seems to happen for modules that are in use even when the ignition is off and doors locked, like the comfort module is still active looking for a signal from the key fob to open the doors).

thanks I read up and think I understand it but ran into a major issue...

the instruction that starts "Address 13" I quoted above, I looked on the list and control unit 13 is Adaptive Cruise Control  (ACC) which my car doesn't have so it doesn't have that module.  I'm not sure if that step only has to be done if you have ACC, or if it means Side Assist won't work unless you have the ACC control unit. I will be pissed if you need ACC because it was a bitch to install all the wiring....  I'm going to email Kufatec and see if they know. 

I was able to do some of the coding to add 3C (side assist) to the CAN gateway and to add Side Assist to the driver assist menu in the MMI (but it says function not available when you select it). But another instruction I didn't really understand-

"Address 3C [side assist control unit]: Enter the standart  coding 030311 and then adapt the address according to the vehicle by clear text coding (e.g., trailer hitch)."  

I'm going to re-read the stuff you referred me to as I remember there was something about some control units requiring a password code to get into them. not sure what the hell the reference to trailer hitch means.

So I had a few issues getting this to work however it seems that the following is required as per newty

I'm thinking that this may be an issue as ghost, dark5had0w, dvw-r & downtime have all incurred too.

dv52 (Australia) & newty , do you have any ideas on why this might not be working. I'm thinking maybe it's outdated software and perhaps I need to flashdaten the 3c control unit?

FYI, Did you know the descriptions in BAP Gen2 in 5F are dodgy descriptions eg. Lane Assistant = Blind Spot Monitor/Side Assist and Lane Departure Warning = Lane Assist. Are you able to recommend naming changes in the next release?
