Hi
I have a UK spec 2018 Passat Estate R-Line. it came factory-fitted with rear LED lights. There was a fog light on the right hand side, but not the left hand side. When the reversing lights and fog light are on together, the reversing light on the right (same side as the fog light is disabled). I think this is all normal.
We have exported the car from UK to France and I need a fog light on the left hand side, as is standard in France.
I checked, and there was no fog light LED in the left hand light unit, nor a wire connected to Pin 6 of the left hand light unit.
I've purchased and fitted a replacement left hand light unit as fitted to a LHD vehicle (HELLA 2TZ 011 890-071). I then disconnected the wire from Pin 6 of the right hand unit, ran a wire from it behind the tailgate liner, and connected it to Pin 6 of the left hand unit. I have an OBDeleven Pro pro but have not yet attempted any re-coding.
I've tested the changes and initially everything appeared to work correctly. When I turn on the fog lights I now have a rear fog light on the left instead of the right, or indeed I can connect both fog lights and they both come on together. When the car is in reverse without the fog lights on, both reversing lights come on. All so far so good.
However, when I put the car into reverse with the fog lights on, an error pops up saying "Check left reverse bulb", and the left reverse light does not come on.
I can only assume that the current being supplied to the left hand fog light from the right hand light connector is being interpreted as an over-current in the left hand unit when the left hand reverse light is turned on at the same time as the left hand fog light. I realise I could probably code the left hand reverse light to turn off when the rear fog lights are on, but ideally I would like a solution that allows both fog lights and both reversing lights to remain on.
Can anyone suggest a solution?
The fault log is as follows
The lights are coded as follows
Thanks.
