Hey all -- I'm working on retrofitting the digital instrument cluster/virtual cockpit/active info display into my 2019 GTI SE. I got back from having the ODIS programming done at the dealer earlier this week; they said it all went great (and correctly adapted the mileage too) but they ran into a check engine light error that they weren't able to resolve:

19868 U015500 Lost Communication With Instrument Panel Cluster (IPC) Control Module (00100111 active/static)

Any tips on a potential fix? I've cleared it and it comes back on re-ignition; reseated all the connectors, including the back of the cluster and behind the MIB unit, everything looks okay there. Fender audio is working fine. Dealer checked it out yesterday during the install and couldn't figure it out. Cruise control doesn't work either though I assume that's related. Anyone have any experience or tips? dv52 (Australia) Scan results below:

At the VW dealer now; they've checked for software updates for every control module, including the ECU and Gateway, everything is up to date. VW tech line won't help since it's not a part designed to work with the car, obviously. At a bit of a loss at this point.

On what part of this fragile blue planet is the car driven? Your handle translates to "people" in Welsh, but I suspect this is a USA car -please confirm. If I'm correct, I don't have access to many details for North America Region cars- given where I live! Was the dealer confident that retrofitted hex 17 module was compatible with the hex 01 module in the car?

Why did you choose a Dashboard module with Part/Software number 5G1920891A on your particular GTI. Do you have details about the donor car for the retrofitted module?

What are the long-code strings for the your car for the Engine module and the old/new Dashboard module?

Does the error cause a problem on the car - if so, please describe

1. Yes, U.S. car (NAR 2019 GTI SE 6MT)

2. I was under the (perhaps mistaken) impression that 5G1920891A is the NAR version of Euro part 5G1920791B (identical except for U.S. things like PARK and BRAKE written out instead of symbols, E → F for the fuel gauge, etc.) My understanding is it's what 2018+ U.S. Golf R's have. NAR GTI owners (here for example, and here) claim to have had no issues retrofitting it vs. the Euro 791 part (though of course who really knows.) I chose it because NAR spec AID seemed a better fit for an NAR car vs. the Euro one but I don't discount the possibility that might be wrong. The dealer only agreed to program the keys to the immobilizer, adjust odometer, and disable CP given of course the U.S. GTI was never intended to use the AID (though obviously many have retrofit it in.)

3. Engine long code: 091900122424002F1000
Old cluster long code: 03AD0912B988CF0502887B095000000080000000
New cluster long code: 03AD1112B988CF0502887B095400000080000000

4. No problems with the car as far as I can tell; it starts and runs fine and no other errors are present. Cruise control doesn't function but I'm told that's due to the above engine error.

First, the hex03 module IS included in your scan (it's the first module - something odd about the listing sequence of modules).

Second, The difference in long-code strings for the mk7 forum car and your car can be explained in the main by the installed equipment (example-your car has manual gearbox and mk7 forum car has DSG)

Third, here's a comparison of long-code strings on the 3 x hex17 modules in your reply:

I assume that you are comfortable with hexadecimal and binary (i.e. Byte/Bit) numbers. Think of each Bit as a separate software switch that tells the instrument module how to operate:

Now, I'm guessing because as I said, I don't get to see too many NAR model cars down here in the very deep south (Australia uses European models) - but the stand-out switch positions (for me) are:

Byte 01, Bit 7 = "Driver efficiency program". Does the AID have this function? Maybe try flipping this switch?
Byte 02, Bits 3-7 sets the "vehicle variant derivative". There is no decoding data available to show how the car models vary with variant derivative number. Maybe experiment?
Byte 10, Bit 0 = "predictive efficiency assistant". The forum car doesn't have ACC, not sure if your AID is compatible with this function
Byte 10, Bit 4 = "volume to be replenished" not sure if this facility is possible on your AID

I think this may ultimately end up being the issue -- it appears the "A" variant (whether 791A for Euro or 891A for NAR) is too old for use in a 2019+ GTI, and the "B" version (791B Euro, 891B NAR) is the correct one to use. Looks like it's potentially user error on this one! Will attempt to source the B part and test again; I'll be sure to keep this thread updated in case there's anyone else out there who can avoid the same issue
