Isn't it odd - I've read lots of posts from folk who have GTI headlights and want to have the Golf R lighting effect (i.e. both "angel-eyes" per car side turned-on as DRL) and you want the opposite!!

Alas in both cases, the answer is the same (AFAIK- and at least for true OEM fittings); there is only one wire per car side for the angel-eye lamp(s) - so the connection to operate either 1, or 2 DRL lamp(s) per car side is physical and it's inside the headlight fitting. Not sure about the aftermarket fitting - but this limitation is still binding !
