Since installing the Speed Sign Recognition (amongst some other apps I would not think relevant) - I keep getting the Error Message "Eco Tips Not Available" plus the dashboard image on vehicle startup and shutdown has been changed from the Alltrack to a standard Golf. I checked in the Virtual Cockpit Theme app and the image says that it is an Alltrack, but that is not what shows. So 2 things - why have the Eco Tips disappeared and how do I get them back? And - how do I get the Alltrack image back onto my cockpit for startup and shutdown?

gcgcbr2 :Hi. I guess the first question is - do you have a OBD11 PRO account? If not, you don't have access to manual coding changes.
Anyhow, assuming that the answer above is "yes", the software switches that determine what type of vehicle is shown on the center screen at start-up is in long-code on the Information control unit 1 module (@ address hex5F). Specifically, the facility is on Byte 18 (screenings).
I've included below a set of visual instructions as to how to access these switches. I developed the picture some time ago - so the screenshots show the old OBD11 software version, but the process is the same with the current release SW.
As you can see on the last slide, the car type is encoded - I believe that Alltrack has the code 8, (or hex08, which is equivalent to Binary 0000 1000).

Thanks Don, that is very helpful of you. I do have the Version 2 device and it is the PRO version and I have a Pro account. So I will look into this. Do you have any idea as to why the system always nags me that the ECo Tips are not available, even though in the MMI the check box for those tips is checked. ? Puzzles me. Not a major problem but annoying that what the system is meant to do, is in some way incorrectly set.

Hi Don, I tried your suggestion and opened up the coding for byte_18_screenings. However, it was already set to 8 for the Alltrack. The image on startup and shutdown remains as a standard Golf hatchback! There must be some other over-riding screen image selection. Any other possibilities?

Thanks VWJap. I did as you indicated and the message is gone. Bewdy and thanks. Any clues re my dashboard startup image. I looked into Don's suggestion - which seemed the right approach - but the coding IS set at 8 for the Alltrack, yet the image remains as a standard Golf hatchback!?

Try long code on dashboard module @ address hex17 - navigate down the page to the screen below:
Again, the screen is from the old SW version, but again it's the same entries on the new SW.
Notice Start screen (Byte 9, Bits 0-2)- is your setting Version 1 ?

Hi Don, Yes, I checked that long coding and it is set as Version 1. I changed it to Version 8 with no difference (after resetting MMI for 10 sec etc). I have left it at Version 1 for now. I also noticed in that same menu an entry for Vehicle Variant (8 Versions and 6 Variants A -E) and this one was set at Version 6. I changed it to Version 8 (10 sec blah) and made no difference - Changed it back to Version 6. So, still no dashboard image of Alltrack...puzzled and to much in the dark. I wish there was some sort of guide to inform what these multiplicities (and ramifications) mean.

Why would you reset the mmi to reset the dash?

Indeed. So, since I am a newcomer, how would you reset the dash? Does it need to be reset? In any case, my dashboard image remains as a standard Golf and not an Alltrack and I simply do not know how to revert it.

Just thinking your changing the 5f (infotainment) and not the dash, if your resetting the mmi, dash resets itself,
