Not all MK6 gauges support the feature. If your MK6 is a GTI though, it definitely should support it.
Don't feel too bad though since NO MK5 gauge supports that feature (even that of the GTI).

if it don't work , its not supported, no ? If you have a MK6 GTI, then it MUST work. If you have a base model, then it might work depending on the firmware version or date of manufacture (of the cluster or module). If you have a MK5 Golf or older (than say 2009), then it is basically a waste of time to try and get this feature to work). The MK5 Golf is the equivalent of the Audi A3, so you can compare along the time-line of where you car's manufacturing date is to see if this option is available to you. This feature is VCDS is called : Cluster celebration. I wish I could get it in my MK5 Golf, but alas, my car is too old (before such functionality was implemented)

On my mk6 GTI the app wasn't working either. The celebration seemed to be disabled in adaptations. I turned staging on in Dashboard>Adaptation>Staging and that seems to have the same effect as needle sweep.

any way to get my 20 credits back? I'd recommend you send a PM to Admin. He will understand that the hardware control module for the Instrument Cluster #17 is different that the test unit that the team may have been working with. What really happened is that there are SO MANY different variations (hardware and firmware) for the different modules that it isn't easy to create an APPs that can address them all. A good example of this is that Bosch and Delphi each make their own versions of the RCD-510 for VW and Audi. They have DIFFERENT hardware internally (Delphi have dedicated Phone and Sirius configurations) and at least 3 different firmwares each. This is one of the reasons why Ross-Tech don't do APPs like OBDeleven, but encourage the user to manually do the procedure (since VCDS will automatically select the correct label file and these label files are always up to date by the team).

My 2014 MK6 GTI Cabriolet showed that "staging" isn't available in the instrument cluster. I had to activate "celebration" and it works.

Which channel did you have to go to for your cluster in #17?

I'd suggest you try both. One of the steps is for the MK5 Golf. If neither works, then it means that VCDS can't do it either. Your only solution would be to do it by editing the EEPROM directly. If you have have a backup of the EEPROM already in a BIN file, then I can use VDOeditor to enable the feature, then send the corrected file back to you. Public announcement: ALL MK5 and MK6 clusters can do staging via a direct EEPROM edit. The actual memory address varies slightly by the EEPROM chip. I enabled staging on a MK5 Golf using instructions from a Russian site which I'll link to here when I come across it once again. Edit: I found the article I was referring to earlier. I recommend opening in Google Chrome so that Google Translate can translate to English for you docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1Z1tlIqP9eCqQTQ3BPaGuxfOTAb1TNlIJyObXFbq5uws/edit#gid=0

Can you tell me more about this method? I'd really love to get the Needle Sweep function on my MK5 Golf. (I've replaced the cluster with a Jetta cluster lately, is it still possible?).

This YouTube video (done by someone else) is a summary of the overall process. This is the same for 24C32 and 24C64 chips. In my case, I didn't desolder anything. I just used a "clip" to connect to the 8 legs, then read the contents.... .....loaded the BIN file in a tool called VDOeditor, made the change for Staging (and saved)..... .....then reloaded the modified file back to the instrument cluster.
