I successfully activated mirror dip the mirror goes down but I have a problem. The mirror does not return to the position it was in before. It goes much more higher than it was before.. What can I do?

panos93gr: The cause of your problem is that you are missing the memory modules from your mirrors

As I see it - you have 3 x options: - Unwind the tweak and remove mirror-dip-on-reverse
- retain the tweak and live with the need to re-adjust the setting every time that you come out-of reverse
- replace the mirrors with units that have memory modules - check with a dealer for suitable part numbers

So I haven’t had a single response to this on a VW owners forum and 2 minutes here and I find it!
My Golf has done this from the factory but a couple of years ago, it just….stopped. If videos can be shared here, I can post one or two of what it does now; the behaviour can vary a little but it usually involves:
- Not returning to the original setting following manoeuvring - Not dipping to correct level when engaging reverse - Sticking/clicking/juddering on the way down/up.
Someone one suggested it could be because the glass had slipped off the backing plate a little by being exposed to the sun. It then fell out one day and I assumed that was why - until I replaced the glass and the problem continued.
The mirrors on the vehicle are original, factory fitted and no mods have been applied to the car (I only got my OBDEleven today) and when I scanned my car earlier, nothing was returned by the device at all! I found this odd because I also have a problem with my heating I was really hoping it would indicate a problem with a motor and not need me to remove&flush (or replace 🥴) the heater matrix.
Did you ever get this problem sorted? I spoke to VW in Aberdeen and they told me it was likely a software issue. Now that my OBD device has scanned the car and said nothing, I’m not convinced the door mirror motor doesn’t need replaced.
Any ideas?

You know the software will only report a electrical problem right, if the motor has gone weak or sticky it won’t report that

@ith0ms0n:Hi.
"Aberdeen" - means that your Golf is a RoW (Rest of World) model with right-hand drive - like the cars we get down here. If it was my car, I would still check that the car does indeed have the required memory module for mirror dip. It's done like this (note the pictures below show the now obsolete OBD11 screenshots - I made the slide some time ago - but it should be easy to translate to the current SW version) Your car can have different X/Y coordinate values (these depend on the actual mirror positions) - but they can't be 255% if the memory facility is installed

you can try the tweak, but your screenshot confirms that the required memory module is missing (alas) Don

I first realised there was a problem with it late in 2018. At first I thought the mirror glass had shifted and that was causing it to stick the way it does, then the glass fell out and the replacement one did the same thing... I realise that the car won't necessarily report a fault of the motor is sticking or jammed however, VW told me it was a software problem when I first spoke to them about it a few weeks ago. They wanted it in to 'diagnose' the fault, which I refused. Of course if I spend £80 on a new motor and it doesn't fix it, I'm stuck with it. I'm assuming that it's likely to be the issue though and I need to consider replacing it to get the feature working again? I've just had my alloys powder coated and I'm now terrified I'm going to kerb them.

hmm.......... OK - I've not heard about the "software problem" - but if there is a systemic issue with the car's firmware (not the car's "coding" which can be user modified), then I would have thought that its repair would be at VW's cost (regardless of the car's warranty status). Shirley this is consumer law in Aberdeen? Anyhow- if you are certain that no coding changes have been made to either the hex09 module (what OBD11 calls "central electrics"), or to the passenger side door module (@ address hex52), then I suggest that you complete again the 2 x in-car procedures for mirror-dip (just to rule-out this aspect of the feature as a possible cause for the problem).
Forgive the very detailed nature of my description below, but the 2 x in-car procedures are done like this:
In-car procedure 1
Storing front passenger exterior mirror settings for reversing Make sure the car is locked The mirror-dip facility is dependent on which ignition key is used - so select a valid vehicle key for saving the settings. Unlock the vehicle using this key. Switch-on the electronic parking brake. Switch-on the ignition. Put the gearbox into neutral Activate the mirror-dip function on the car as follows: - Press the CAR button on the escutcheon plate around the infotainment screen to open the Vehicle settings menu
- On the lower right-side of the Vehicle settings screen, select set-up (the setting looks like a gear cog)
- Select Mirror and Wiper settings
- Select Mirror
- scroll-down the list and make sure that Mirror lowering function in reverse gear is active
- Back-out of all infotainment screens
Select reverse gear. Adjust the exterior mirror on the front passenger side so that you have a good view of the kerb area. - Return gear to neutral/park position
The settings for the mirror position is now saved automatically and assigned to the particular vehicle key that was used in the in-car procedure
In-car procedure 2
Selecting the settings for the front passenger exterior mirror- With mirror-dip function activated in the infotainment unit as per procedure above, turn the rotary knob for the exterior mirrors to the passenger-side position:
- For Right Hand Drive vehicles, the rotary knob must point to L position
- For Left Hand Drive vehicles, the rotary knob must point to R position
- With the ignition switched -on, select reverse gear.
- The front passenger exterior mirror will move-out to the saved mirror-dip position
- The front passenger exterior mirror will return to its normal position when:
- The vehicle is driven forwards faster than approximately 15 km/h (9 mph),
OR - The rotary knob is moved out of the passenger-position into another position.
If these procedures are not successful, please post-up a copy of the long-code string on the passenger side door module (@ address hex52) and I will confirm (or, not) that the software switches on the module are correctly set for mirror-dip.

I have already reconfigured the position of the mirror in the car, numerous times, since the fault developed - I've been putting up with it for a long time and have only really began investigating it since I learned only the motor could be the issue and not the potential replacement of the entire mirror..
I have a video of the problem, is there a way I can upload this here?
I will have to figure out how to read the value from the byte suggested when I'm finished working. I will retrieve the values and post them later.

hmm......... the mirror dip software switches in the passenger door module are set correctly (in Byte 4).
So just to confirm: If so, I'm all out of suggestions!! Don

Both adaptations are active. I mean, I expected that? The car has been with me from the factory and has had The feature, functioning, from day 1. The car has never been modified (by myself, or VW) in that time, I’ve only started examining the configuration since I got my OBD11, having had VW say if needs recoded. The motor moves fully through both axes, I only have the issue when using the reverse-dip function. The problem has to be a fault in the motor positioning system somewhere - I’m guessing a sensor is on its way out and just hasn’t reported a fault to the car - yet. I’ve even just tried a factory reset on the mirrors and wipers section of the car settings l, reconfigured the positions and it’s still getting stuck.
