Hi,
i tried to activate VIM with first generation of OBDeleven (white one) and App says, it worked.
But in motion, there is no video...
App still says "activated".
Did someone experience problems with activating VIM on these models? Have to say, that this car was US-model and is now used in Germany. I believe, they changed at least software versions of all ECUs to german/european model.
Can this be also a problem? OBDeleven has found it ok.
Thank you all in advance.
Christian

c2performance: Maybe it's a problem with the firmware version number of your MMI unit (the module in the glove-box). If it's > 1000, the App doesn't work

Hi, thanks for your answer.
Thats really a good information. The car is from 2013, so i didn't thought it might apply. Maybe they changed MMI due to EU-conversion or at least made a software update?
Do you know, if the app still shows "Activated", if the firmware version ist >1000? Or does it only say "not possible"?
Thank you!

c2performance : When I tried the App on a 2018 A3, it operated and showed "activated" even though the software version number was > 1000 - and it took the 100 credits from my account. But i don't care because I usually never use APPs (they are rubbish IMO) so credits are worthless to me! This is yet another reason why NO ONE should use Apps. How difficult is it for the software developers to first read the software version of the hex5F module - before taking 100 credits? What should happen is that the the App should read the software version and then warn the user that their MMI is above 1000 - it should then allow the user to proceed but to indicate that the APP likely won't work and that 100 credits will be removed from their account. This is what constitutes proper informed consent by the user. This is one of the most expensive APPs - so it warrants more care by the developers (IMO)
I don't believe that VOLTAS_IT deliberately (and inappropriately) wants to thieve 100 credits from users - I reckon it's just sloppy programming by the APP developers (who appear to just to want to make more APPs from the OBD11 App sausage machine - rather than concentrate on making sure of the quality of the APPs that they have made)

dv52 (Australia) just to add to your comments above (which i agree with). I did suggest to the dev team recently that they should open a feedback section for apps so that items like the above can be highlighted to the developers and either fixed by coding or updating the comments to stop people using apps that dont work (on that model). I am afraid the response was they don't have enought resource to keep an eye on it....... c2performance whilst the description does tell you it wont work I would certainly ask support for your credits back as the app should not work and the description should explain to you why it does not work in my opinion.

@testeronline: thanks for the message of support. If I valued credits, I would certainly share my thoughts with OBD11 administration!! However, credits are only of value to anyone who uses Apps - and I do not! So the thought of spending time in a dialogue with support where the best outcome is that I'm returned something something that I will never use, isn't appealing.
I have amassed 818 credits over the years according to my account information - I would gladly donate the lot to you because of your outstanding contribution to the forum community. If you can get support to implement the transfer - it's yours!!

@testonline: How about we suggest to admin that they set-up a facility whereby those of us that have "spare" credits can transfer them to a centralized fund that can then be donated to a charity? The centralized fund could allow those donating to select from a set list of charities- so those giving have choice. The facility would enhance VOLTAS_IT's standing as a good corporate citizen and it would give those of us that don't use APPs a worthwhile outlet for credits that we won't use!!
Of course it would cost VOLTAS_IT money because they would need to pay the value of the credits to the charity, but since they are happy to charge users for extra credits - they should be equally prepared to pay charities the same amount for donated credits!!
It would be a measure of VOLTAS_IT's corporate value-set if they accept the proposal (and equally a measure, if they don't accept) Don

Well I have dropped them a line with link to this thread and told them happy to give my pot of credits.
Have to wait and see if there is any interest.

Just to inform you: i checked in my app-account - i already got back 100 credits for this (not working) transaction. So the developers are fine. I just checked back in the car later, and it is still "active", but not working.
So my question was, if there is another solution to get VIM on this car wit higher software version?

There are two options to activate vim, obdeleven or vcp-with vim manager. I have no experience on your firmware so you have to vind someone with vcp and try it .
