My personal review of OBD11 2020 Year.
Could do much better
It’s been an interesting year on the OBD11 Roller-coaster and just leaving my thoughts on both the good and bad.
Major success was getting out IOS Release, there is still a lot left to do but a lot of the Android functionality is now available.
Good points for Android:
Autocode Gateway list
Bonnet Opening warning
ODX File change support
Added more Languages support
This is let down I am afraid
- IOS Only currently supports one language for both app and database but Android supports two (Which I find very helpful)
- Whilst support has increased its hit and miss across the app, not all functions support all languages and total number is different between IOS and Android.
Bad points for Android
They were very slow off the mark in telling the user community what was going on with SFD and putting up warning on the web site (which they then took down and put back up again).
In general, one of the big failings of this project is lack of communication between the Company and the User community.
Testing needs to be improved, if you look at the number of releases, we have had 34 (that’s nearly 3 a month)
I will let you draw your own view from the Release notes below. It would be nice to see a more professional release process.
Personally, I have resigned from the Beta team as I find the bugs listed don’t get fixed or commented on before being rolled out to users.
Many Basic Functions do not work
Live data issues – incorrect or not working
Chart Process needs to be fixed so its usable for what most users want
IOS and Android seem to have a different development path so we get good stuff on one but not the other, the screens may be different but the
Basic tool should do the same thing, Very difficult for user community to provide support when its so different.
We see bugs get fixed and then come back (Connection Issues, Blank Screens, Duplicate control units on the Screen, KWP2000 Issues)
The OBD11 Web site needs an owner who cares currently there are large number of errors and missing links that should be fixed
but it does tie into the view the IT Team don’t have a good testing and release process to ensure the whole package is updated.
The Help file system is the same it is neglected, full of bugs and old screen shots, does not help users to help themselves.
The forum has lots of clear information on stuff that is not working and changes people would like to see but we get very little feedback from the Company that you have seen the bug
Or any idea when it might get fixed / released (for new features)
