I have a Golf 7.5 1.0 tsi and bought an flip camera from Aliexpress. My head unit is an MIB2 STD. I have connected all wires and when I put in reverse the screen reacts as it should but the picture is just dark. The camera doesn't flip out either (opening the boot is no problem)
I have activated rearview low (information control unit 1) with obdeleven.
I've added control units (parking assistance and infotainment) but they won't respond.
Any thoughts?

Is it a high line version or lowline version, if lowline you connect it to the reverse light so no programming involved
Bad idea to add modules you don’t have

jem : If I can add to vwjap response - if the VW symbol isn't flipping-out, then I'm guessing that the internal latch isn't receiving a supply- maybe? This explains why you are seeing the dark-screen - because the camera is looking-at the back of the VW symbol- perhaps? My suggestion is that you check the wiring arrangement first. To help in this process, here's a very simple wiring arrangement for the low-line camera:
As you can see, it all happens from a DC power perspective on the 4 x pin connector (T4bt in the picture).
So, my suggestion is to grab a multi- meter and measure that you have +ve battery voltage between pin #1 and pin #2. If the DC supply is wired properly, the voltage on pin #1 should be what's called "T30" - which simply means that volts are present regardless of whether the ignition is turned-on, or not (i.e. hard Battery volts). So, take the measurement with the ignition switched-off, then make certain that the volts remain when the ignition is turned-on.
If the above test is successful, then measure the volts on pin#4 - what should happen if the device is correctly wired is that +ve battery volts should appear on this pin ONLY when the right-side reverse lamp illuminates.

Thanks for you help. I went through the wireing with a multimeter and found that the problem was with the cable that is connected to the rear light. It's working perfect now.
Will probably be back to this forum with more questions when I receive my Aliexpress rain sensor, autolight rotary switch, mirrors, head and rear led lights. 😂
I'm trying to get my very poorly equiped Golf to be more like my Passat.
