I was unlocking via OBDEleven the Ambient lights Menu on the MMI to activate the foot well lights as I was getting ready to do the retrofit. As I have previously done the necessary coding and done Puddle lights retrofit and ambient lights in the door buckets this one are wired to the door window switch. I did all the activation reset the MMI and menu appear. I followed the guide on this thread: www.audi-sport.net/xf/threads/a3-8v-removing-j519-t46b-in-attempt-to-install-footwell-and-cupholder-lights.276625/However two things happen, my dimmer switch on the dash does not work properly it doesn't lower the intensity during the day, only at night when the auto lights turn on, is when it works and my car is not getting any power to light the rear door window switch or the rear door ambient lights on the door buckets. The rear windows go up and down but they don't have lights anymore... I revert all I did via OBDEleven reset the MMI. Still not working.. I remove the rear door panels check all the wiring connections, they are good and plugged properly to the Module no damage or pinch cables I also check the main door wiring that plugs to the chassis pillar. Still not red lights on rear window switch. I check all car fuses also good. I have no idea how to fix this. When I was unlocking the ambient lights menu on the MMI, I never touch or code the rear or front doors because they were already coded. I'm really puzzle because everything should work fine since I reverted back the coding I did. And I double checked the history logs of what I did. I then long coded the rear doors with the original code prior to unlock puddle lights and got nothing. I try the code from after the puddle lights, prior to this issue and still nothing. I have cycle the doors during the coding and even disconnect the battery and still nothing. I unplugged the leds lights from the rear window switch and still nothing. I run a output test on both rear doors and they light on fine. Any help with this matter please. |

However two things happen, my dimmer switch on the dash does not work properly it doesn't lower the intensity during the day, only at night when the auto lights turn on, is when it works eli0073 : I'm not sure about the other matters in your post, but in respect of your observation above - the dimmer switch doesn't control dashboard light illumination during daylight!
For daytime periods, dashboard lights are controlled by a photo-transistor that's embedded in the clock dials (shine a torch onto the rev counter to see the effect). So, the dimmer switch is meant to operate exactly as you have observed !

I didn't double post and if I did it was certainly not my intention first time ever posting here. I saw a post with similar issue. And I reply to see if that person has solve his problems.
Great info on the dash dimmer switch. However the main problem remains. The gatteway has lost communication with door Modules control C and D, hence my issue no lights on the rear door window switches.

eli0073 : hmm very odd indeed! Your A3 has separate rear door modules (Driver-side= J388 and Passenger- side=J389) that communicate directly to the CAN bus (in other MQB platform models, the rear doors are controlled by the front door modules). So- some interesting fault-codes U020100 - Lost Communication With “Door Control Module C”
U020200 - Lost Communication With “Door Control Module D”
"Module C & D" refer to the rear door modules - and Module "A & B" (not in your post) are the front door controllers. On your complete scan report do the rear door modules appear properly - or said another way, are these modules correctly communicating to the diagnostic module?
U112600 - Undefined control module No communication U112400 - Data bus Additional installations detected
The first error message suggests that the diagnostic module (@ address hex19) has been asked to speak to a module of unknown origin. The second error message suggests the opposite; there are modules physically fitted to the CAN network that diagnostic module has no knowledge-of!
Of course I'm guessing, but ALL errors above suggest that perhaps there is a problem with the Gateway installation list on your car. Please check that the 2 x rear door modules are registered in the Installation list and then check that no module is registered that isn't physically installed in the car (by selecting the pencil icon in the red circle). Or you could enable the AUTOcode feature in OBD11 which is eloquently explained by @testeronline here (assuming that you are using the Android operating system)

I have use the feature as you mentioned to make sure everything is as it should.
Weirdly I have no trouble codes on neither bb or bc. Or any of the doors.
I have another trouble code on 5F multimedia but I doubt that has anything to do with this issue of not having lights on the rear window switches.

eli0073 : hmm.......... nothing obvious (to me) in your scan report. Have you checked the Installation list for incorrect modules registered with the Gateway module?
What about the records in your History file - perhaps you have changed a setting related to the door modules?

Have I checked the Installation list for incorrect modules registered with the Gateway module? I don't quite understand...could you guide me on that? How would I know? And where exactly in the gateway i need to check?
As per my history files I did change settings in the door Modules..I activated ambient lights and door exit lights. To get the puddle lights to work. Other than that no other changes to the doors. And they were working fine prior to my adventure unlocking Interior Ambient lights menu on the MMI.
I've been told that OBDEleven sometimes messes with parameterization, and it could uploads generic datasets.
I was recommended to perform SVM to production plant record to put the control units to factory specification via Odis.

@elioo73: OK -the Gateway module (hex19) in your scan report above contains errors about Lost Communication With “Door Control Module C & D. But it also has the fault U112600 - Undefined control module No communication. This latter fault kind-of suggests to me that either there is either a module that's physically installed on your car and that it is not registered in the Gateway list, or someone as registered a module on your car in the Gateway list that hasn't been installed. The Gateway list can be accessed like this in OBD11:
Of course it's important to only tick those modules in the Gateway list that are physically installed in the car. You can manually check this using the screens above, or you can use the Autocode facility as described by @testeronline here
