Hi,
I am looking for a bit of advice over what package, I should be buying after some confusion regarding 1st Gen and Next Gen capabilities and Digital Content.
I have used VCDSLite, VagCanPro, ME7Logger and some ECU flashing tools for historically my Audi S3 8L and my current Audi TT 8N.
Recently I've been given my daughters Golf Mark6 5K 2.0 TDI and cannot get VagCanPro to connect (VCDSLite will not it is not for this range) - the car has a couple of problems and Android Torque only returns the generic power unit codes.
So I am looking for the right solution to be able to - 1. View and Clear Faults for all Sensors including the VAG Propriety 2. Make Coding / Long Coding changes - like cruise control, updates, remote button scope, daylight running lights etc 3. Collect some logging of details if looking for any issues
Several users on TTForum have advised ODBEleven as unlike Android Torque etc it accesses the extended codes and can(apparently) perform the same changes as Registered VCDSLite / Full VAGCOM can?
I looked on the FAQ and one of the differences between 1stGen and NextGen was a point about DigitalContent not supported on 1st Gen and the Pro Activation has the Digital Content Icon. Although, users on the TTForum have stated they have 1st Gen Devices with Pro Activation - so can change codes.
Essentially, I am looking for some encouragement that paying the extra few pounds for the NextGen Device and Account will mean that my requirements will be met and of course the NextGen Device, Apps and Vehicle Manufacturers Capability will continue to evolve whereas the 1stGen may actually become obsolete / deprecated support and app will not be updated.
Thanks for any help you may give.
BTW: If I have posted in the wrong section, please advise - I was looking for a New Members / Introduce yourself forum section.

My personal view is very simple.
If you want to code then you need a pro license unless you are happy just to use apps (which I am not)
I have both Legacy and Next gen dongles and whilst the Next Gen has a better processor both tools are dependent on having good internet connection which in turn will impact speed.
As far as I am aware there is currently no digital content that only works on next gen but going forward the software house is going to start to support other makes and that will only work on next get. First will be BMW. Next gen is the only dongle that supports both Android and IOS. I think that you may have miss read what they are saying The first-generation device does not have digital content (Credits or PRO version) included (by which they mean in the bundle). But that is not true during the xmas sale as they are including credits on some lines.
As you are not stranger to coding I would advise just bying the dongle and then a pro license (£51.36 + 21.40 = £72.76) you will miss out on credits but as you will code it yourself that does not matter and will mean cost is cheaper than buying pro setup £85.81
I cant believe they will stop support (certainly in the next few years) of the old dongle the only change I would expect is support of later versions of Android and possibly new content that only works on Next Gen but we have seen no indication of that so far.
Hope that helps.

Thanks for your help, that's great it's crazy hovering over one or the other when a tank of fuel is more than either of them.

Yes indeed but especially in these times you need to look after the pennies. The only extra bit of info I would give you is if you are using this on your car away from your home wifi make sure you have good mobile data connection, its a pain when trying to code and it works like an old dial up line

I assume the data collection is between the device and phone using blue tooth rather than wi-fi direct and the device needing to access the internet, via the phone for cloud storage? Is there anywhere to see the one-click pre-defined functions existing / requested / currently in development by Model - just the £85 deal comes with a phone holder and 200+200 credits but I haven't found a list of them just that they are available? And do you know the scope of the basic settings etc eg in VCDS I can adjust some settings - but in tunerpro I can overwrite entire map tables. what I am trying to see whether the 400 credits will last me years because I am only updating a couple of things - which I can do manually? or whether it is worth getting the 400 credits as they are only "another" tenner but save me hours and could use them in the future on a different car? also can / do third-parties provide one-clicks to ODBEleven a bit like the Android Torque Plugins? not really a quick question sorry Thanks

No problem that's the point of forums for people to help each other out. Go obdeleven.com/en/supported-vehicles and select vehicle you are interested in and at the bottom you have an APP Section
Or if you install the app on your phone and enter the VIN number of the cars you are interested in and open the Apps section
With regards to third party stuff OBD11 is a closed system and does not work with any other dongle or software provider
----CURRENTLY-----
Data collection is the app talking to your car via the OBD11 Dongle (via bluetooth) however it only works with an active internet connection, all the changes you make via apps or coding are recorded along with scans and saved on your user account in real time Further if you save live date enquiry via Charts process or do backups (single or all) these are also saved. You also need to have your location turned on (according to support this is Google requirement)..
Lastly you get 6 free credits a day if you log on (then one credit) and 5 more for playing adverts so it dont take long to build them up (and you dont need to have a dongle you can start today.

Thanks for your help that's great.. the credit bundles sound like they are only necessary if you are sorting out your neighbours cars at the same time rather than just for occasional personal use.

Thanks for the heads up, I was about to go for the pro pack - that probably would have annoyed me... - paid an extra £2.50 to get it delivered by Amazon in a few days instead of a few weeks.
Now what to do with 1000 credits, when the only app costs 10 credits and clears the service light which you do by pressing the milometer reset when you switch on the key - I am going to hunt around for Lambo's and Bentleys to scan their cars

first world problems, I would personally suggest setting up a small business looking after Golf MK7 / 7.5 doing changs using your credits... The credits dont have a sell by date so you may get friends or family with a new VAG car and in the future you never know they may also work on BMW Cars as well.
And you will also have that great carry pouch and phone holder (ye ha)
