Hello ODBEleven users, I wanted to try and get some more information about the Software version of the BCU that are flagged up by ODBeleven. I have a Skoda Octavia Scout 2019 (as well as numerous other Skoda's on the household fleet); I've done a scan of all of the cars; a good number of the cars are coming up with firmware updates that are available for various modules. This is somewhat frustrating, because whilst I believe that the updates are available, I cannot find anybody to actually update the modules.
For context; some examples: So - as I am from an IT background (we patch, patch and patch continuiously) and my car is now becoming an online system (via the MIB2.5 system), I want to get the forum's perspective on how I actually get these upgrades performed and onto my car. People have been making out that upgrading the BCU's is like a dark art and that it is never done.....which I know is silly.
I have ODBeleven and I have VCDS too; neither allow me to perform these upgrades....so your thoughts on how I actually get these upgrades done please.
Thanks
Max

VW Specialist garage will have access and should be able to confirm if its true and for a cost do it.
Firstly on your 2019 car if you personally do upgrade firmware I would expect that you would risk warranty issues.
You need to look at ODIS and GEKO as these are the systems that you need (and I am no expert) but I do not think you can get a personal GEKO account but there are certainly people online who rent access but I do not know if they give you the ODIS software or you have to buy that (and that's not cheap)
But you do have to ask what are you going to get out of the upgrade, again I would not expect most main dealers to know whats in the upgrade or want to do upgrades as its not there current business model (although there is a change going on).
Personally my 2014 car has never been updated and I am aware of only one thing I cant do because I don't have the correct version to allow wing mirrors to only open when you turn on ignition instead of door open.

@varaderoguy: there's no great mystery about updating module firmware - all you need is the correct tool and the new file. The two "common tools" are ODIS and VCP (see here ). Whilst I have a VCP cable, I'm not an expert on the device, but there is a forum attached to VCP The procedure (from memory) for flashing the BCM via VCP is: Open VCP software/ click More/ Select Comfort/ Central Electrics/ Connect/ Flasher. Then navigate to the file location, choose file type (the files have a .frf, or .sgo extension) and start the flash.
VCP involves an annual subscription - which I haven't (I can still use the device, but I don't have access to the latest software updates). So I don't know what files are available on their platform. But you should be able to buy frf/sgo files as a spare part and also online. The webpage here describes the firmware update process - given your background, I would think that you would have no problem understanding the procedure. There are also pay-for-service suppliers that will do the update remotely - but I can't recommend any Don PS: If I could understand how to operate OBD11's nexgen EEPROM facility, I suspect that it might be also able to update module firmware - but I suspect that it's limited only to address specific changes. But I'm not sure because try as I have, I can't get it to work!!
