Hello folks, I have a 2020 A3 Quattro. I installed my new flat bottom steering wheel and plugged in the new paddle shifters(car never had any paddles before). The lights built in the paddles turn on but don’t work when shifting up or down. Is there anyway to code it? I thought they were plug & play. Thanks!

hmmm........ not much SPECIFIC data provided - meaning actual OEM part numbers.
Not all A3 8V Steering wheels are created equal!! In this case, I suspect the issue might be the steering-wheel button-sets - but I'm guessing. If I'm correct, the solution isn't a coding problem that OBD11 can fix (I think) - It's more likely a firmware matter that requires equipment changes (again, I'm guessing).
For example, here are 2 x versions of the steering-wheel buttons for an Audi A3 (click-on the part numbers): - 81A951523XHA - W/O Triptronic
- 81A951523AXHA - W Triptronic
Now, both my links above are for Yankee version Audi A3, 8V - and you don't say what country this is - but this doesn't matter because my point is that simply retrofitting the physical paddles and plugging them into a factory installed button-set that didn't facilitate paddles is hit-and-miss! Sometimes you could be lucky and the retrofit is plug-and-play - but sometimes it is not (it depends on the button-set part number that was originally installed on the production-line, at the factory)
I suggest that you note the part-number on your current button-set and look-up the OEM functionality

Interested in getting one for my A3 as well

Good morning Don, I need some support regarding the subject of this discussion and I hope you can help me. My Audi A3 FL 2018 1.5 TFSI is equipped with the 7-speed automatic S-tronic gearbox and the S-line multi-function steering wheel without paddles (steering wheel code: 8W0419091DGJAH , detail n°3 in the image). On my car I would really like to have paddles behind the steering wheel so I bought the correct original paddles indicated by Partslink24.com with my VIN number which were supplied as an optional ( Tiptronik paddle set code 8W0951523J5PR , detail n°21 in the image). I also bought a compatible steering wheel with holes for the paddles on which I will mount the airbag, multi-function buttons and paddles and with which I will replace the original. I'm still waiting to receive the steering wheel and paddles but do you think they will work right away without coding? Otherwise what coding is needed with OBD when adding paddles? I would greatly appreciate your support and if there is a need for any further information I am fully available. Thanks in advance.

gio90: Hi - I'm not sure that I can add anything more than already said. AFAIK, there aren't any coding changes that can be made for this retrofit - so I suspect that this matter is one of equipment and dataset compatibility. Here is the wiring set-up: Don
