hi all
i am looking to purchase obdeleven to do some retro fitting on my vw up.
i need to do a bcm swap before i retro fit cruise control and just want to check that i can use obdeleven to code a replacement bcm in to my up, i am lead to believe you can but want to be sure before i purchase this over vcds.
also is there any guides on how i would go about coding a bcm using obdeleven, im new to doing coding and dont want to screw it up.
thanks all.

Yes, both OBDeleven and VCDS can code the BCM. OBDeleven is of course the more affordable option. Comparing the two solutions, initially, VCDS had the faster descriptions of the various coding options (addressed in Bits and Bytes) and saved on your PC as "label files". OBDeleven has done a good job with providing the descriptions for the various options as well. What I suggest is that you find and post the part number and software version of the BCM that you have in your car currently (White sticker with Black writing), and the developer can check the database to ensure that the descriptions for your module exist to make your decision making process easier. As it relates to coding cruise control on MY 2008 MK5 Golf GTI, I only have to make one coding change in my ECU (Address #1) and steering wheel control module (Address #16). If you do this without actually swapping the button, then either the front or rear wipers stop working (this may not be applicable to your car).

im new to doing coding and dont want to screw it up You won't do anything bad to your car once you BACKUP your existing coding and adaptations for all your modules. For some cars like the MK5 and MK6 Golf, you can mess up the famous "Byte 18", rendering the lighting system in your car (especially tail lights). The other way to mess your car up is to attempt an output test on your airbag module. The airbags will NOT actually deploy, but the car will be in a soft-bricked state that (almost only) the dealer can resolve using ODIS (connected to VW Germany via VPN). You can play around otherwise, just don't delete anything immobilizer related (such as the keys). lol (else you can't get back in to fix it).

thanks matthew. i have all the parts for the swap (cruise control combo stalk wiring and bcm) so i will do it all at once.
if i back up my bcm, is there a simple way to just restore from a back up? so i could swap the bcm and restore from the back up so everything from my old bcm is on the replacement so in theory it will just work.
i have a 1s0937086b and putting a 1s0937087b in its place as the 086 doesnt actually have the inputs for the cruise controls.
how do i contact the devs to make sure its all on the app.
