I have a second generation Nexus 7 and for the life of me I cannot get the OBDEleven app to maintain a stable connection to my first generation OBDEleven device. I am trying to use it within an Audi A6 Avant 2016. 90% of the time the app simply fails to connect to the OBDEleven. When it does connect, it works for about 1 minute, then loses the bluetooth connection. The lights on the OBDEleven are red, with the occasional flashing amber, then green.
I have tried all the workarounds that I've seen. Pairing the device before I launch the app, not-pairing the device before I launch the app. Ensuring the car door is shut, trying with the ignition off, then on, with the bonnet open/closed. The OBDEleven device presents itself within the bluetooth device listing, but just doesn't connect. I have deleted the Bluetooth cache on the Nexus, same result. My Nexus 7 is running Android 6, so that's supposedly supported. I read somewhere about 5ghz wifi messing up bluetooth on the Nexus, so I disabled that, no joy, same result. I have also ensured no other bluetooth devices are connected to the Nexus. Same result, it no worky!
As a last gasp chance to get this OBDEleven device to work, before it is thrown in the bin, I bought a Sony Xperia L1, running Android 7. I installed the app, try to connect, nada, the OBDEleven device doesn't even present itself on the Sony to connect to! At least it appears on the Nexus.
So guys, any suggestions? I have raised this issue with support and am awaiting a reply. Do I have a duff OBDEleven device? I was bought it as a Xmas present back in 2017 and just haven't had the need to use it till now.....such a shame.
Thanks
